2020 marks the 103rd year Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory has been serving the Burlington and Alamance County area, making it the oldest, family-owned funeral home in this part of North Carolina.
It was in 1917 James A. Lowe began helping families who lost a loved one. By 1932 he officially opened the business in a renovated house at the corner of Main and Holt Streets, Downtown Burlington. Then, in 1955 they moved “out in the country” to today’s location, 2205 South Church Street.
When you visit Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, you will discover it to be one of the finest funeral homes in the state. It features an expansive foyer, three well-furnished visitation rooms, a state-of-the-art, on-site crematory, and one of the most beautiful chapels of its kind.
Ask 3rd generation family member Jim Lowe, a Funeral Director and President of Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, what makes his business unique, and he’s quick to give the credit to his staff. “We have three people that have been here 30 years, two more that have been here 20+. It’s one of the best staffs in the country. Everybody is active in their church, they’re good people, and they care about the families we serve.”
Jim is joined by his wife Paula Lowe. She is the Corporate Secretary and is also a Funeral Director. Their daughter, 4th generation family member JimmiAnne Lowe, has also joined the firm. She is a fully-licensed Funeral Director.
Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory has a very compassionate and caring team of Funeral Directors who are professional, talented at what they do, and very easy to work with. Eric Rudd is Vice President, has been with Lowe for 30+ years, and Neil Roberts is Treasurer with more than 20-years at Lowe, Jay Roberts, Kellie Smith, Michael Swanger, David Poythress, Kenny Page, and Caleb Massey. The full-time staff also includes Funeral Director Assistant Andie Shoe, Office Staff Bonnie Murrell and Dee Lowder, and Jonathan Ball who handles our grounds and maintenance.
There’s another new staff member coming soon, and that’s Darcee, a 6-month old Goldendoodle being trained to be a therapy dog. Once she’s fully trained, Darcee will make appearances in the community wherever she can offer support and love. She’ll also be at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory from time to time during visitations. She’ll seek out family members struggling with grief to offer them comfort. Darcee will be popular with kids visiting too!
In an industry that has seen long-time family owned funeral homes acquired by large, investment firms, Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory stands as one of the most respected, family-owned funeral homes in the southeast, earning membership into Selected Independent Funeral Homes. To become a member, they must pass a rigorous, selection criteria, be privately owned so that the needs of the families they serve come first, and they view their reputation as their most valuable asset. If you know the Lowe Family, or any of the staff members, from funeral directors, assistant funeral directors, to their office and maintenance staff, they truly believe that.
You are welcome to visit and tour their facilities, or meet with any of their funeral directors to have a conversation about pre-planning a funeral. Call 336-228-8366.
