I am very excited to be working on this play. Please follow it and click on the My Alexandra link to receive updates. This play will serve as a vehicle intended to entertain and educate audiences about those dealing with a loved one who suffers from a severe mental illness. Understanding the inherent challenges resulting from such a diagnosis will help reduce its stigma, and bring a heightened sense of awareness to this subject.
Meet the Team:
Tom Franco - Writer
Meet Tom Franco, the writer of My Alexandra. Tom is a full-time licensed therapist, a writer of scholarly journals, and has now written this new play, My Alexandra. A director from New York City, he holds a BA in Speech and Theatre from the University of Wisconsin and a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California. At college, he became a member of the Phi Alpha honorary society and was awarded the Order of Arete at USC. Tom has made it his life's dream to meld his passions of healing and the arts. He was the Artistic Director for Rising LTD., a not-for-profit theatre in SoHo and part of Alliance for Resident Theaters in NYC. On stage, he directed Betty Buckley in an Off-Broadway production of an original work entitled Bedside Manners. He has also worked on Broadway productions such as The Wiz, Equus, Hal Prince's Pacific Overtures, and La Cage Aux Folles. Tom’s goal for bringing My Alexandra to the stage is to reduce the stigma around mental illness so that we can talk about it without fear and without judgment.
