This week we had the privilege of honoring our wonderful volunteers. Their willingness to give their time, energy, and talents is a huge part of what makes Twin Lakes such a special place. Not only do they enrich the lives of our residents but they create lasting friendships and care deeply for one another. Last year alone, our volunteers gave an incredible 26,435 hours of service — both on campus and in the broader community. What an impact! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all you do. We are so grateful for you!

This week, Tails NC, Inc. brought the wild to us — sharing an up-close look at a few of their exotic mammals, reptiles, and birds. From furry friends to scaly showstoppers, residents were captivated from start to finish (with only a few slipping out early!). It was an afternoon full of oohs, ahhs, and plenty of smiles — proving you don’t have to travel far to go on an adventure!

Earlier this week, our residents were treated to an uplifting performance by Inspiro: The Triad Youth Choir as they presented their summer concert “Sing On!”. While the full ensemble enjoyed a well-deserved break, talented staff and student soloists took the spotlight, sharing a vibrant mix of pop, soul, Broadway, R&B, jazz, and more.

INSPIRO is a community-based ensemble of 7th–12th grade singers from across the Greensboro area. Founded in 2022, the choir is dedicated to fostering musical excellence, youth leadership, and a true sense of belonging through song — all while ensuring equity and access so that every student can participate, no matter their financial background.

Thank you, INSPIRO, for filling our hearts with music!

Today’s "Back to School" Fashion Show at Twin Lakes Community was a joyful blend of style, spirit, and connection! Residents from higher levels of care walked the runway alongside our wonderful YESS! (Youth Engaging Serving Seniors) summer volunteers, showcasing back to school outfits full of personality and charm. It was more than just fashion — it was a celebration of intergenerational friendship, confidence, and loads of fun.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event such a special time!

There’s never a dull moment on our beautiful campus! This week, a graceful blue heron was spotted by one of our lakes, a brave mother duck put on quite a show by "fainting" to distract from her nest of eggs and a curious bunny made a surprise appearance. Nature is always putting on a performance here at Twin Lakes Community—and we’re lucky to have front-row seats!

There's always something fun going on at Twin Lakes! Recently, our summer youth program (YESS!) volunteers spent an afternoon of laughter and connection as they joined our independent living residents for a lively game of chair volleyball! From high-fives to heartfelt conversations, it was a beautiful reminder that joy knows no age. These young people brought energy and enthusiasm, and our residents showed off their competitive spirit and teamwork. Moments like these build bridges between generations—and a few impressive volleys didn’t hurt either! Afterwards, they enjoyed a pizza party together.

Twin Lakes Community offers in-home care service both on and off campus. Staffed by certified nursing assistants, our in-home care program provides assistance with a number of tasks, from bathing and dressing to closet re-organization. Today, we introduce you to Tammy Ledford, one of our in-home care staff members who brings joy, light, and love to every person she encounters.

With a heart full of compassion, an ever-present smile, and a spirit that lifts everyone around her, Tammy has become one of the most beloved members of our in-home care team. Whether mentoring new staff, walking through inclement weather to reach clients after caring for her own ailing father, or simply sending a cheerful text filled with smiley faces and well-wishes, Tammy gives her all. Every day.

Her strength is rooted in deep personal loss, yet she has transformed her pain into purpose—determined to make the most of each day and to brighten the lives of others in every small way she can. One client wrote, “You simply can’t help but feel cared for and uplifted after being with her. She is a wonderful aide and from the first day felt like I’ve known her forever. Please don’t ever take her away from me.”

Tammy recently stepped up to serve on our employee-led SPIRIT committee, helping shape team-building efforts and mentor new aides with patience and positivity. She even has a magical way of reaching our most particular clients—so much so that we now lovingly say she has the ability to “Tammyize” them.

We are endlessly grateful for Tammy’s presence on our team. She reminds us all what true caregiving looks like—not just a job done well, but a calling lived joyfully.

Our first week of YESS (Youth Engaged Serving Seniors) is off to a fantastic start!

Each summer, young volunteers join our staff to add even more meaning to our residents' days. A group of 20 student volunteers kicked things off last week with a tour of our beautiful campus, where they learned about our community and resident rights. After a fun round of trivia, they enjoyed a pizza lunch before heading into orientation for the higher levels of care where they’ll be making a difference all summer long.

The week wrapped up with a variety of meaningful and fun activities — from learning Tai Chi, to hosting an ice cream social at Coble Creek Healthcare and Rehabilitation, lending a hand with crafts at Moneta Springs, and ending with a lively Bingo Bash.

We’re so excited to watch intergenerational friendships blossom this summer with this AWESOME group of YESS volunteers! 💙
