Discovery Place Discovery Place is a 12 Step recovery retreat for men suffering from alcoholism and drug addiction

Located on 17 rolling acres just west of Nashville, Tennessee, Discovery Place opened its doors in June, 1997 as a recovery retreat for men. Based on the program outlined in Alcoholics Anonymous, Discovery Place navigates guests through a proven program of action-oriented recovery in daily workshops, twelve-step meetings and personal service commitments. Over the last 15 years Discovery Place has helped over 2100 men and their families through 30, 60 and 90 day residential recovery programs complimented by an array of family support and continuing care. Discovery Place also hosts public outreach and education programs which reach more than 5,000 participants in Middle Tennessee each year.

Today we’re kicking off a week of gratitude here at Discovery Place, and we’re starting with some of our favorite coworkers.

We’re thankful for the Dogs of Discovery Place. Huck, Finn, Piper, Choco, and Milo bring a kind of calm and joy to campus that no one else can. Whether they’re greeting guests, supervising from the porch, or taking their well earned afternoon naps after a busy morning of “helping,” they make this place feel like home.

Here’s to the pups who keep spirits high and remind us every day that recovery can include moments of real comfort and warmth.

We’re excited to share that Jackson O. has been promoted to Admissions Coordinator at Discovery Place.

Earlier this year we talked about Jackson’s heart for helping others and the impact he’s already had on the men who walk through our doors. This promotion is a natural next step for someone who shows up with humility, empathy, and a genuine desire to guide families through one of the hardest moments of their lives.

Jackson’s own recovery has shaped him into the steady, dependable presence he is today, and we’re grateful to have him serving on the front lines of admissions.

Congratulations, Jackson. We’re proud of you and grateful you’re part of the Discovery Place family.

Our Volunteer of the Month for November is Jay P.

Jay has been faithfully coming out to Discovery Place to give back the gift that was freely given to him. After surrendering himself and working the 12 steps with a sponsor, Jay continues to show what real recovery in action looks like.

We’re proud of you, Jay. Thank you for your service and commitment to the Discovery Place community.

📣 This Week’s Speaker 📣

This Friday, we’re thrilled to welcome the one, the only Kevin M.!

Kevin is a guide here at Discovery Place and a vital part of our community. The 12 Step program tells us to practice spiritual principles with enthusiasm — and there’s nobody who does that better than Kevin.

He’s helped hundreds of men find a path to recovery and continues to lead by example with kindness, energy, and faith. Most of all, he’s our dear friend, and we can’t wait to hear him share his story.

Step 11: “Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him…”

Step 11 reminds us that recovery is a daily spiritual practice. It’s about quieting the noise, seeking guidance, and staying grounded in gratitude and awareness. As we move through November, this step encourages us to slow down and reconnect with ourselves, with others, and with the Higher Power that guides us.

From our Program Director, Adam L.:
“Meditation, over time, has taught me patience and the practice of being still, no matter what’s happening around me. We drink and use to avoid reality, but meditation and prayer allow me to experience it fully. Step 11 invites me to be present, to connect with God as I understand Him, and to simply be where I am.”

Recovery isn’t just about removing the things that held us back. It’s about building a relationship with something greater that keeps us moving forward.
