Anger, as with all other emotions, tells you something. This negative emotion may be indicating to you that this isn't working. Something isn't right here.

If you find yourself frequently getting angry as a result of certain interactions with particular people, consider if it may be time to implement a consequence instead of acting in a way that you are not proud of and regret later, or continuing to stay in this situation that eats away at you.

Sometimes, implementing a consequence is the best way to change the situation that's contributing to the repeat anger.

Eye contact avoidance is a subtle avoidance strategy to help reduce anxiety and increase the sense of safety. However, these behaviors can have the unintended effect of sending or communicating negative messages to others and push them away, making you seem uninviting, even though you're actually just anxious or distracted. Even though you're uncomfortable, try focusing on living out your values and aiming to make the other person feel valued. This subtle behavioral change may actually help to change your feelings to feel more confident too.
