More Than a Garnish: Unlocking the Health Benefits of Chives!
When you think of chives, you probably think of that little green sprinkle on a baked potato or a scoop of sour cream. But this little member of the allium family—a cousin to garlic and onions—is so much more than a pretty topping. This pretty addition to your garden is very easy to grow and harvest.

Think of chives as having a similar medicinal profile to garlic, just a bit gentler. They’ve been used traditionally to aid digestion, which is why a sprinkle of them on your food can help a heavy meal go down easier.

If you'd like to know about other health benefits of chives (and how to grow and harvest them) you can find out more here: https://flowerpotholistic.com/more-than-a-garnish-unlocking-the-secret-power-of-chives/

Should you take a Magnesium Supplement?
Suddenly, magnesium is having a moment, and everyone is asking the same questions: What does it actually do? Are all the claims true? What's the best way to get more magnesium? Are there different kinds of magnesium? (Ummm.....yes, and if you take the wrong kind you're going to p**p instead of sleep)

Chicory - Parasites to Coffee Substitute
Most people know about how chicory as a coffee substitute, but it has been used to treat intestinal worms and even athlete's foot. The leaves, roots, and seeds are all useful but utilized by different methods like tinctures and washes.

Can a Glue Gun Fix Broken Bones????
I mean I LOVE to use my hot glue gun and joke that it can fix ANYTHING, but a broken bone? Looks like it's true, especially for a bone that breaks in a complex, irregular way like a shattered tibia, a smashed wrist, or a complicated fracture in the ankle that looks more like a jigsaw puzzle than a clean break.

A team of biomedical engineers from South Korea has developed a tool that sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie: a modified glue gun that can 3D-print a bone graft directly onto the broken bone during surgery.

Yes, a GLUE GUN.

Find out how it works here: https://flowerpotholistic.com/can-a-glue-gun-really-fix-a-broken-bone/

Client Files: She wanted to decrease (or eliminate) the need for her Type 2 Diabetes but hates exercise and won't go on a diet. This was a challenge because diet and exercise are the most recommended way to get your blood sugar levels under control.

Spoiler alert: we found a way that her doctor was able to decrease her medication and we're still working towards elimination. We did a non-diet, not really exercise, and some herbs.

It IS a w**d, but it has its uses. Chickw**d is most known for its ability to reduce inflammation, which is why it has been used to treat arthritis. You can also make a poultice from the crushed leaves and apply it directly to rashes or skin irritations like roseola. Adding a strong infusion of chickw**d to a bath can also help soothe widespread skin discomfort. Chamomile - the GOAT!

Few botanicals are as universally loved by herbalists as chamomile. While it's known as a sleepy time flower, it has a long list of uses. Chamomile is best known for its ability to calm things down, inside and out. It’s my go-to for all sorts of digestive complaints—from bloating and indigestion to gastritis. A warm cup of chamomile tea after a heavy meal is one of the oldest and most effective tricks in the book. Some people even make an after-dinner aperitif with it, which I can get behind. Legit tasty - should I do a DIY on this? Let me know.

Client Files: When You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling -
The other day, I had a call from a woman who was looking for a couple of specific tinctures: damiana and slippery elm. I was curious about her request for these two specific herbs so I asked her a few questions.

She was a little shy about it initially, which is completely understandable. But what she eventually shared is something incredibly common. She was dealing with stress, health challenges… her body had been through a lot and that had taken a toll on her sexual health and libido. Many of us have been there or will be.

So, her request for damiana, known for its aphrodisiac properties, suddenly made perfect sense. The slippery elm is sometimes used to help with, you know, those irritated tissues, but that wasn't really what was happening. This is where an herbalist can help – looking beyond the surface and considering the bigger picture.

Carolina Geranium - helpful, but bitter AF and one of my favorite finds from the wild. Also known as wild cranesbill, it has a rich history of being used for everything from wound care to digestive issues. It's not a gentle herb and honestly it's pretty bitter—but it's worth knowing about. Click the link to learn all about its benefits and how to use it: https://flowerpotholistic.com/carolina-geranium-helpful-but-bitter-af/
