The SCG Story - History of Senior Care Group
The Story begins in the coal mining region of Shenandoah Pennsylvania in Schuylkill county. Locust Mountain Hospital sat nestled on the side of a mountain. The hospital was the only source for healthcare to the local mining community. Mining in those days was a dangerous and treacherous profession and still is today. In 1915 Father Lemuel B Norton, pastor of the Annunciation church, along with 100 prominent citizens and their donations started the Locust Mountain Association. In 1926 the hospital opened their doors and served the community until 1981.
In 1983 Senior Care Group was founded with the noble mission to provide housing and healthcare to the elderly. David Vaughan led the charge to find like minded people who also had a passion to serve seniors. In 1995 the fruits of his labor were ripe for harvesting. The doors of that mountain side hospital reopened as Nursing Care of Locust Mountain.
Senior Care Group grew and prospered over the next two decades providing quality care for thousands of seniors in the eastern United States. Today Senior Care Group operates several Senior Living Communities in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Oklahoma. Senior Care Group is also the parent company of Transitions Rehabilitation and Diamond Home Healthcare. The future for Senior Care Group is Bright!
