Air you can’t see can still impact your health.

Particle pollution (also called PM or particulate matter) is made up of tiny particles like dust, smoke, and soot that float in the air. Some are so small they can travel deep into your lungs.

That’s why staying aware of air quality matters—especially for children, older adults, and those with asthma or heart conditions.

Here in the LBPHD district, we use PurpleAir monitors to track air quality in real time across our communities. These monitors help us understand what’s in the air so you can make informed choices each day.

View our PurpleAir Monitor levels here >>> https://map.purpleair.com/air-quality-standards-us-epa-aqi?opt=%2F1%2Flp%2Fa10%2Fp604800%2FcC0 #6.51/41.233/-99.722

What you can do:
🌿 Check air quality before spending extended time outdoors
🏃 Limit outdoor activity when levels are high
🏠 Keep windows closed during poor air quality days
😷 Consider wearing a mask if you must be outside

Cleaner air starts with awareness.

RSV cases may be slowing down—but the risk hasn’t disappeared. ⚠️

There’s still time to get vaccinated before the end of the month and add an extra layer of protection for you and your family.

RSV can be serious, especially for:
• Infants and young children
• Older adults
• Those with underlying health conditions

💉 The vaccine is still available—now’s the time to act.

Out here, help isn’t always just around the corner.

On rural roads, distracted driving can mean longer emergency response times and more severe outcomes.

Stay alert. Stay focused.

This week, we’re recognizing the many people who work every day to keep our communities healthy and safe—often behind the scenes.

Public health is more than what you might expect. It includes health department staff, nurses, community health workers, and home visitors, as well as environmental health professionals who monitor air, water, and food safety.

It also includes the partners we rely on every day—healthcare providers, school staff, mental health professionals, EMS, fire departments, and law enforcement.

Together, these individuals help prevent illness, respond to emergencies, and support the well-being of our entire community.

Take a moment to thank someone who makes a difference 💚

Notifications are temporary. Crashes, fines, and injuries aren’t.

On Nebraska’s rural roads and highways, it only takes a second of distraction to change a life — yours or someone else’s. Whether you’re driving between communities or down a gravel road, keep your focus where it belongs.

Put the phone away or pay.

But it’s not the road that changes — it’s your attention.
A text, a scroll, a quick check can lead to serious consequences on rural Nebraska roads.

No message is worth it. Put the phone away or pay.

Public Health is Everywhere

It’s in the water you drink.
The air you breathe.
It's the ability to get vaccines no matter your insurance status.
The support you receive.

Public health works behind the scenes every day—preventing illness, protecting families, and helping communities thrive.

During Public Health Week, we’re celebrating the programs, partnerships, and people that make this work possible right here in our district.

From home visiting and immunizations to disease monitoring and community education—public health is always working for you.

Because when our community is filled with Healthier People, they become Stronger Communities which lead to Brighter Tomorrows. 💚

That notification can wait. A crash can’t.

From highways to gravel roads across our communities, distracted driving puts everyone at risk. One quick glance at your phone is all it takes.

🐣 Thinking about adding some fluffy new chicks to your Easter season? Backyard poultry can be a fun and rewarding tradition—but it’s important to keep safety in your basket, too! 🧺

Even healthy-looking birds can carry germs like Salmonella, so a few simple habits go a long way:

🌷 Wash hands after handling birds, eggs, or anything in their space
🌷 Keep chicks and supplies outside the home
🌷 Supervise little ones around poultry
🌷 Skip the snuggles and kisses (as cute as they are!)

With a little care, you can enjoy your backyard flock all season long—no surprises in your Easter eggs 🥚✨

🦇 Bat Encounter? Stay Safe!

Do not panic. Staying calm helps you think clearly about what to do next.

If you were bitten or scratched:
1️⃣ Clean the area – Wash thoroughly with soap and water for at least 15 minutes to reduce infection risk.
2️⃣ Seek medical attention – Contact your healthcare provider or go to the nearest emergency department. Let them know you had contact with a bat, as rabies post-exposure treatment (PEP) may be needed.
3️⃣ Document the incident – Note details about the bat and the circumstances of contact; this helps medical professionals.

Prevention is key:
• Do not touch bats, alive or dead. Contact local wildlife control if a bat is in your home.
• Educate your family, especially children, about the risks and importance of not handling bats.

By following these steps, you can protect yourself and your loved ones. 🛡️ Always prioritize professional medical advice after any bat encounter.
