"Oh yeah, I popped my rib out last week. I think I'll take off live rolls this week but I'll be back next class."

"My low back keeps flaring up. I just need to take a bit more time off."

"Yeah I got a concussion during my fight but I feel fine. I will be back to sparring next week."

If you get an injury, your tissues are likely compromised to some capacity. Sure, some injuries may heal with time and movement, but a vast majority of true injuries require intervention to ensure they can handle the demands of your sport.

If you are a combat athlete, you HAVE to find a provider that understands these demands. If you need helping finding one, check out database of qualified providers or reach out to me directly and we can chat!

Don't add complexity for the sake of adding complexity.

All too often I see people add two great foundational exercises together into one exercise, which ultimately negates the benefits of either exercise.

Stay tuned for examples and how to not fall into this trap.

Objective measures are essential in return-to-sport testing… but they’re not the whole picture.

Yes, you need thorough, evidence-based objective testing before being cleared to return to run. But clearance doesn’t equal readiness.

Beyond the data, tissues must be progressively overloaded to tolerate higher and higher demands. These are what I call the “checkboxes.”

They aren’t always formal tests—but they’re non-negotiables that must be completed before a full return to running.

👉 What “checkboxes” did you have to hit on your journey back to running?

I had a great conversation the other day with my guy , and he shared a principle he and his company live by: SCOG

Slow, Controlled, Organic Growth.

This is a powerful mindset in many areas:
- as a new business owner
- in a rehab setting (especially post-op)
- for relationships and personal development
- for athletics
- for young men and women learning that sustainable progress—in rehab, sport, and life—takes time

What about this principle resonates with you? Do you think you can implement the SCOG principle in your daily life?

Progress doesn't have to be rushed to be meaningful.

Shout out for a great session this week. We look forward to the next one!
