Play is really the work of childhood.”

Our 2026 Butte Special Riders sessions are set and our planning for this summer is in full swing!

Session 1: June 8, 15, 22, and 29
Session 2: July 13, 20, 27, and August 3

Daily sessions are held on the days listed above (Mondays) at 9:00 AM, 9:45 AM, 10:30 AM, and 11:15 AM, with riders assigned a 45-minute time slot based on ability and age.

During the session, each student is paired with a BSR horse and supported by volunteers, while an instructor leads them through lessons and exercises. With this support, students learn to communicate with and guide their horses using voice, sound, body language, and touch.

Applications will be available April 8th! Check our website at www.buttespecialriders.org/students to learn more!

We are looking forward to another season at the barn and cannot wait to see both new and returning riders.

I’m incredibly honored to have been voted into the Top 3 for Best Counseling Services in 2026 Best of Butte. 💛

Thank you to everyone who voted for and continues to support me—it means more than you know. I’m especially grateful to this amazing community for allowing me to practice play therapy and work with children and families in such a meaningful way.

During a meltdown, the goal is not to 'fix' or 'stop' the behaviour.
The goal is to help the nervous system return to safety.

What we say — and how we say it — makes a profound difference.

When a child is overwhelmed, the thinking parts of the brain are offline.
They can’t reason, respond, or problem-solve yet.
They need co-regulation, not correction.

This post offers phrases you can use at each stage of the meltdown cycle — not to control the moment, but to support safety, connection, and repair.

Because when a child learns:
“I can have big feelings and still be safe with you,”
they develop emotional resilience, trust, and self-understanding.

If you found this helpful and would like a deeper breakdown of each phase (with step-by-step support strategies), you’ll find the full Timeline of a Meltdown resource via link in comments below ⬇️ or via Linktree Shop in Bio.

Save this to come back to when things feel overwhelming

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that someone nominated my practice for Best of Butte! 💛

If you’re feeling inclined to show a little support, you can nominate once per day under Health & Beauty, in the Best Counseling Services category. Either way, I’m really grateful—thank you for cheering me on!
