The Near Death Encounter of Christine Mavis April 3, 2024
Easter came early that year and right after that I wasn’t feeling quite right. On April 1st I vomited and didn’t think much of it. On April 2nd I didn’t eat all day until evening when I was feeling a bit hungry. After finishing half of a chicken sandwich I vomited again which I thought was strange as this has never really happened to me two days in a row. Being 9:00 pm at night I told my husband that I thought something was strange and I might call my doctor in the morning for an appointment.
By 5:00 am the next morning, April 3rd I was in so much pain that I asked my husband to take me to the emergency room. After discussion with the ER doctor and some blood tests and imaging it was determined that I was an emergency gall bladder situation. I was quickly put on IV antibiotics and pain killers and phone calls were made as to which hospital would take my case and which ambulance could transport me.
The ambulance arrived to pick me up 2 1⁄2 hours later and I began a bumpy 3 hour journey to the hospital in Billings.
While on this journey I prayed fervently as the ER doctor in Butte had given me a horrified look as I departed there. I was comforted by my ambulance attendant who was also a Christian. I mostly prayed the Lord’s Prayer and Luther’s Evening Prayer (into your hands I commend myself, my body and soul and all things). During this time I had an encounter with the Holy Spirit and was given Peace.
During my encounter I perceived light inside my physical body. It was a pretty light blue, opaque light and for a short time there was a smile in the light. It was impressed on me that I was not going to die that day. It was also impressed upon me that we are making Christianity too difficult ( it is simple). The light propelled me toward Billings where I needed to be for treatment. I began to feel just a slight bit better while continuing my ambulance
ride, which also gave me hope.
When I arrived at the Intermountain hospital in Billings, the ambulance took me to the area where some patient’s are declared DOA (Dead On Arrival). I was given more pain medication and asked if I wanted a full response if I coded. I told the medical staff that I wasn’t planning on going anywhere any time soon, so go for it. After a period of
time in the ER I had not coded. So I stood up out of the bed and told them I wasn’t going anywhere anytime soon as the Holy Spirit had impressed upon my mind.
I was then transported to the hospital GI Floor where I was initially considered
an intensive care patient. Because I stabilized, I was scheduled for an ERCP
(a special endoscopy used to make a more detailed diagnosis, remove infectious debris and gall stones, etc.) the following day. This procedure went very well for me and I
began to feel better immediately.
Later that evening, a General Surgeon visited with me about the recommended robotic Gall Bladder surgery I needed. I was scheduled for this the following day. This surgery also went very well for me even though I did deal with a lot of pain directly following the surgery.
The day after the surgery, I was released from the hospital. This was 3 days after I was admitted. I prayed prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude on my way home with my husband.
I thanked Christ Jesus for this great gift and special encounter. I had had experiences with the Holy Spirit prior to this, but was not 100%
sure about it. But through this encounter, I
had recognition of the Holy Spirit which has given me 100% surety of love, forgiveness and
salvation!
