It was a beautiful day full of babies and extra special for me as I got to catch my first baby! I’ve attended births for over 4 years and I have been fortunate to always be accompanied by the midwife. This day though, we were called in 2 different directions and I’m so glad I was able to be there to support the family and catch their baby after a very fast labor and delivery! 🤍

Reminiscing on the honor that it is to serve women and families during their labour and birth. It’s beyond a privilege to be invited into that sacred space, to witness women’s strength, to support them in this most pivotal time.

There’s a beautiful Indigenous saying: “Women in labour leave their bodies and travel to the stars to collect the souls of their babies, and return to the world together.” This couldn’t be more true, and to be witness to this transformation is something I will never take for granted and never tire of.

To each family who has invited me into their birth space and allowed me to support them, thank you! 🤍 And an even bigger thank you to Heart and Home Midwifery for each opportunity to learn from your wisdom and gentle, steady guidance.

It’s that time of (every other) year to complete NRP recertification! This weekend I had the great opportunity to gather with many likeminded birth folks to learn with each other, practice skills together, hear/share stories and hold space for each other. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to learn such powerful and important skills!

2 years ago this beautiful sunset was outside my window as I was preparing to have my 5th baby and spend my first night ever in a hospital. It wasn’t the birth we had planned and hoped for but we made the best decisions we could based on the information we had at the time. After my labwork showed some concerning results we were quickly seen by MFM and ultimately decided to be induced. I wanted the baby to have immediate access to intervention after birth if it was needed due to the condition we knew we were facing, so our plans to have my 5th homebirth quickly turned into my first hospital birth + induction.

The worst part about this night wasn’t the Folley Balloon they placed to start my labor or the IV that delivered Pitocin contractions…it was the hospital bed lol 😩 it was impossible to sleep because the bed was SO uncomfortable and made my hips ache terribly as I laid in it trying to rest through the night. It was almost an improvement when, by morning, my contractions became too intense to stay in bed any longer.

My very last belly pic at 40 weeks + 5 days! 🥹 I was having zero signs of labor and honestly probably would have been pregnant another week or so, but we had a planned induction scheduled due to our baby’s medical condition. 🤍

This was me TWO YEARS ago! 🥹😅 my youngest’s birthday is coming up so I wanted to share some photos to celebrate in these upcoming days. I didn’t share photos online of my pregnancy this time, unless you saw me in real life most people didn’t even know I was pregnant (although it was very obvious if you saw me, haha!) 🤰
