WHAT IS TMS?
TMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) is a non-pharmacological therapy recommended by the American Psychiatric Association since 2010 for treating Major Depressive Disorder.
During treatment, magnetic pulses are delivered through a coil to stimulate nerve cells in the brain areas that regulate mood. Repeated stimulation of these regions can have an antidepressant effect on those with Major Depressive Disorder.
Each session lasts about 30 minutes on average. Since TMS is non-invasive, it doesn't require anesthesia, doesn't affect cognitive function, and has no systemic side effects.
