Couple welcomes triplets after 3 years of fertility struggles: “I got one baby for each year I was trying,” mom says

After years of fertility challenges, Amanda Inocencio and her husband Fernando Reis turned to in vitro fertilization, ultimately welcoming triplet sons Robert, Roger, and Ryan on February 13.

The Florida couple described the birth as a dream come true, with Inocencio noting that it felt like she received “one baby for each year” of their three-year journey.

The surprise was even greater when doctors, who initially thought she was carrying twins, revealed a third baby during an ultrasound.

The boys arrived early at 33 weeks, each weighing just over three pounds, and spent about three weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit before going home.

Their birth marked a rare milestone for Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, which had not cared for triplets in more than a decade.

Hospital CEO Lincoln Mendez praised the NICU team’s skill and compassion, emphasizing how meaningful it was to see the babies thriving after their delicate first weeks.

For the new parents, the experience has been filled with both joy and gratitude.

Reis, a Boca Raton police officer, recalled the emotional moment of learning they were expecting three children, describing it as both overwhelming and exhilarating.

Now, with their sons home and healthy, the couple looks forward to watching them grow up together, cherishing the bond that will come from sharing every milestone side by side.

They say in heaven, mothers rock babies that aren’t theirs.

Tiny souls who left this world too soon…
Being held until their own mothers arrive.

I think about that a lot.

The idea that no baby is alone.
That somewhere beyond what we can see, someone is rocking them,
whispering love,
keeping them safe
until their mama gets there.

So if you get there before me…
please hold mine.

Rock them for me.
Tell them their mama loves them more than anything in this world.

And if I get there before you…
I promise I’ll be holding yours.
