Living with a chronic illness can bring daily challenges, but you don’t have to face them alone.

Palliative care is specialized support for people living with serious or chronic illnesses. It helps manage symptoms, improve comfort, and support emotional well-being at any age and any stage of illness.

Whether you’re navigating heart failure, COPD, cancer, or another life-limiting condition, the team at Faith Palliative Care partners with you, your family, and your medical providers to enhance quality of life.

Please welcome Dr. David King to Faith Hospice! Dr. King is an Emergency Medicine physician who entered the field of hospice and palliative medicine after 5 years of independent ER practice. He was inspired to seek further training in hospice and palliative medicine after caring for many patients with critical illnesses. Originally from New Jersey, he has lived in West Michigan for ten years and completed his formal HPM subspecialty training at Trinity Health Grand Rapids. Dr. King has been inspired by the work that Faith Hospice does and is overjoyed to join the team.

This 4th of July, we celebrate our nation’s independence and honor the brave men and women—especially our veterans—who have dedicated their lives to protecting the freedoms we hold dear.
At Faith Hospice, we are humbled to care for those who served, and we remember the sacrifices made for our country. Today and every day, we stand in gratitude.
Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Independence Day. ❤️🤍💙

It is Bereaved Parents’ Day on July 3rd. For those who have experienced this unimaginable loss, the wrongness of their child’s absence is felt every day.

Losing a child can induce feelings of failure, as we feel the sole responsibility for our child’s well-being and survival. This feeling can come from the belief that we have failed to protect our child, especially in cases of illness, accident, or su***de. The gut-wrenching distinctive grief associated with child loss can be particularly challenging, involving feelings of self-blame, guilt, and a profound sense of loss of self.

While it’s natural to feel as though no one knows what it’s like to walk in your shoes,
there is comfort to be found in community with other grieving parents. When you walk alongside others who have lost a child, you often find encouragement to begin living again. Seeking the opportunity for counseling support can help you find the strength you need to forgive yourself, embrace peace, and begin living in the present.

While it is never easy to take the first step, grief support is only a phone call away. For more information, please contact the Faith Hospice Bereavement Department at 616-356-4825.

When your loved one enters hospice, you will still play an important role as a caregiver. Hospice staff are not at a patient’s bedside at all times, but rather supplement the care already being provided and equip family caregivers with added resources to provide end-of-life care.

When people think of hospice, they think of someone nearing their last breath. However, anyone with a prognosis of six months or less to live is eligible to receive hospice care. That means that for up to months before someone’s passing, they can benefit from the new set of tools that a hospice care team can provide.
