As a post-op specialist, I’m going to be very honest with you…
After the first week is actually when massages become even MORE important; not less.
A lot of people think once they get past week one, they can just do everything at home, but that’s usually when:
• Fluid starts hardening
• Fibrosis begins forming
• Uneven results show up
• Swelling shifts instead of going down properly
Professional lymphatic drainage is not just a “massage” it’s a technique that helps your body properly heal and shape after surgery.
Now to answer your question directly:
✔️ Most clients continue paying for professional massages for at least 2–6 weeks (sometimes longer depending on the body and procedure)
✔️ At-home care is SUPPORTIVE, not a replacement
If you’re doing things at home, you can use:
• Foams and boards (for compression and shaping)
• A faja worn properly and consistently
• Light manual drainage techniques (VERY gentle! Not aggressive)
• Lipo foam + abdominal boards for even compression
• Staying hydrated (this is huge for lymphatic flow)
But please understand this:
At-home care will not break down fibrosis or move fluid the same way a trained post-op practitioner can.
The best results always come from a combination of professional care + at-home maintenance.
Trying to replace professional care completely usually ends up costing more later to correct.
