Today, we remember without stigma those who have died from an overdose, acknowledge the pain and grief faced by the friends and family they left behind, and support without judgement those who have survived an overdose.

It’s normal to forget things from time to time as you age. You might draw a blank on the name of an acquaintance, miss the due date for a bill, or lose track of a thought. While forgetfulness can certainly trip you up, this type of memory loss doesn’t mean you’re destined for dementia.

Memory loss can also be a side effect of certain medications, dehydration, stress, or any other number of things. So, in older adults it can be difficult to know when to consult a doctor about memory loss. As a rule of thumb, when these slip-ups begin to impact your everyday life – or that of a loved one – it could be a sign that it’s time to talk to your primary care provider or family doctor. But, here are a few tips to help you along the way.

If you have questions or concerns, a great time to talk about them is in an adult wellness visit. To schedule one, give us a call now at (231) 775-9741.

Two out of every 3 women 60 and older have high blood pressure, also called hypertension. Blood pressure is the force your blood makes against your artery walls when your heart beats. If this force (or pressure) is too high, it can damage your heart over time.

While you may think “if high blood pressure is so normal, it’s not that big of a deal”… that couldn’t be further from the truth. High blood pressure is a risk factor for many serious health conditions, including heart disease.

The only way to know if you have high blood pressure is to get it checked, so if you haven’t had it checked in a while come in for a visit!

If you need to schedule an appointment, give us a call now at at (231) 775-9741.

August is National Eye Exam Month and, while eye exams are important for everyone, we want to take a moment to focus on those with diabetes.

Eye exams for those with diabetes are particularly important because they can help detect and manage eye issues that can be caused by diabetes, such as diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma. Diabetic retinopathy is a leading cause of vision loss and blindness in people with diabetes, but early detection and treatment can help preserve your eyesight.

So, if you haven’t had an eye exam recently, get one set up today! There are several great eye doctors in the Greater Cadillac region – if you ever need a recommendation, don’t be afraid to ask while you’re in our office!

Tonight is Global Sleep Under the Stars Night!

Did you know that sleeping outside can help reset your circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and wake up in the morning? It can also replenish oxygen levels, which helps your body repair muscles and your nervous system. Additionally, the fresh air can help you break down lactic acid and recover from exertion more quickly.

So, tonight, instead of staring at your phone before you fall asleep, set up a tent or hammock and enjoy staring at the stars as you fall asleep!
