Update: We will not be open at all today. Hopefully we will see you tomorrow!

Due to weather and a downed line in our parking lot, Family Practice will be closed this morning. It is not safe for patients or employees to open. We don't know the ETA of when the line is being cleared. We may open later but that is not clear at this time. If you have an appointment, we will contact you later for rescheduling.

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month, a painful condition that effects over 11% of women between the ages of 15-44.

Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus. It is often painful with different women experiencing different types of pain – from back pain to pain during sexual in*******se to pain during bowel movements. Women with endometriosis may also have difficulty getting pregnant.

While there is no cure for endometriosis, there are treatments that can help with the symptoms, which can be discussed on a case-by-case basis with your doctor.

This week is Better Sleep Week, so we want to share this little tip from the National Sleep Foundation.

Many of us probably think, “I should really get more sleep” but what steps do you take to make that happen, or what steps do you take to ensure the sleep you do get is restful? Sleep plays a huge role in your mental and physical health; however, around 19% of adults in the United States don’t get enough sleep on a regular basis. The impact of this sleep deficiency on your physical health can include heart problems, immunohealth, cognitive performance, and more.
Sometimes, the problem starts with not being able to fall asleep or just simply not going to sleep when you should – maybe you’re thinking about how that show you’re binge watching will end, maybe it was a long and difficult day at work, or maybe the room isn’t quiet enough for you.

Whatever the case may be, having a sleep routine in place can help. In your sleep routine, include time to unplug electronics, and consider replacing watching television or app-scrolling with reading a book. Gentle stretching or meditation can also remind your mind that it’s time to fall asleep. Finally, consider taking action to calm your senses, such as dimming lights and diffusing essential oils in scents like lavender.

If you experience long-term sleep deficiency, you should consider scheduling an appointment with your doctor. To do so, give us a call at (231) 775-9741 to set up an appointment!

It can be easy to think that exercising is only “worth it” if you’re “really” going to do it – if you’re going to go for a 5-mile hike, if you’re going to do a Yoga class, or if you’re going to break into a sweat. However, exercising for any amount of time is better than no amount of time!

No single food can protect you against cancer by itself. But research shows that a diet filled with a variety of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and other plant foods helps lower risk for many cancers. In laboratory studies, many individual minerals, vitamins and phytochemicals demonstrate anti-cancer effects. By including more foods that fight cancer into your diet, you can help reduce your risk of developing cancer.

“But you’re my doctor, shouldn’t you know what medications I’m on already?”

We hear this pretty frequently. And while we do know the medications WE have prescribed to you, physicians don’t always get updates from specialists or ER departments about new medications you may be on.

It’s important to make sure everyone is on the same page, so even if there aren’t any changes, please bring the list.

Give us a call today at (231) 775-9741 to set up an appointment!

When you think of someone having a heart attack, you likely imagine the Hollywood-ized version, where someone suddenly clutches their chest and falls over. However, that is not always – of even often - the case, especially for women. Women are more likely to have “nontraditional” heart attack symptoms than men, and women are more likely to have silent heart attacks.

For women, common symptoms of a heart attack include but are not limited to:
• Pain in the back, neck, jaw, or throat
• Indigestion
• Heartburn
• Nausea or vomiting
• Extreme fatigue
• Difficulty breathing
