Did you know that around 15% of Americans over the age of 18 report difficulty hearing? It’s not just a condition that impacts the elderly, and there are steps you can take while you’re young to save your hearing such as wearing ear protection around loud noises (including lawn mowers, snow blowers, and certain work environments).

Bluetooth technology works to allow two hearing aids to wirelessly communicate with each other and also allows user to connect to devices in their home and car, like a DVD player, computer, GPS, and cell phone. As with all technology, it’s better for some people than others but here are some of the advantages of Bluetooth technology in hearing aids.

If you’re interested in learning more about these hearing aids, contact us today at (231) 775-9398. We can assess your hearing and determine if you are a candidate for bluetooth hearing aids!

One of the most profound effects of hearing loss is social isolation. Difficulty understanding conversations can lead to frustration, embarrassment, and a reluctance to participate in social gatherings. Individuals may withdraw from activities they once enjoyed, fearing they’ll miss crucial information or misinterpret social cues. This withdrawal can lead to feelings of loneliness, depression, and a diminished sense of connection with others. Family gatherings, once a source of joy, can become sources of anxiety and frustration.

However, hearing loss doesn’t mean you are destined for loneliness. Hearing aids can make a world of difference, so give us a call at (231) 775-9398 to set up an appointment today!

When it comes to ear and hearing health, wearing over-the-ear headphones is usually recommended instead of wearing earbuds. One reason is that earbuds can be up to nine decibels louder than over-the-ear headphones. A second reason is that earbuds trap moisture in the ear canal, which is worse if you’re hot and sweaty from working out. Because bacteria love moist, warm, dark areas (such as an ear canal), studies show that earbuds can cause an 11-fold increase in the amount of bacteria in the ear canal.

However, we know many people prefer earbuds. So, it’s important to talk about how to reduce the impact of your earbuds on your ear health. First of all, you shouldn’t share your earbud with anyone because that can increase your exposure to new bacteria or fungi. Secondly, store your earbuds somewhere clean and dry rather than your bag or pocket where they can pick up germs then get transported to your ear canal when you put them back in. Finally, make sure you clean your earbuds once a week, particularly after sweating and especially if you’ve shared them with someone else. Use a cotton ball dampened (not soaked) with rubbing alcohol, and clean off any wax or debris.

Bluetooth technology is a big advancement in the hearing aid industry. It allows two hearing aids to wirelessly communicate with each other, while also allowing the user to connect to devices in their home and car. Of course, as with all technology, there are pros and cons so determining if this technology is right for you is a discussion to have with your audiologist here at Audiological Services of Cadillac.

However, some benefits include improved sound quality, hands-free talking on your phone, and simultaneous connection to other devices.

Spring is in the air!

We know that means people will soon be spending time mowing their lawns, planting flowers, and cleaning up their yards from winter’s debris. However, we’d just like to remind you to protect your ears while you’re spring cleaning! Appliances such as lawn mowers and chain saws produce high levels of sound, which can damage your hearing over time.

Enjoy the beauty of spring in Michigan – just don’t forget to protect your ears while you do so!
