Happy Thanksgiving Break to all of our furry family members! We hope everyone has a wonderful and safe holiday weekend. Here are a few tips to help make your turkey-day entirely pet-friendly, AND safe!🦃💛

Food safety:
- Avoid toxic foods: Keep onions, garlic, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and artificial sweeteners with xylitol away from pets, as these are poisonous to them.
- Beware of dangerous ingredients: Foods like fatty drippings, gravy, and dark meat turkey can cause gastrointestinal upset or pancreatitis.
- Cooked bones are a hazard: Cooked poultry bones can splinter and cause choking or internal injuries.
- Secure your garbage: Tightly seal all trash containing bones, meat, and other food scraps to prevent pets from getting into it.
- Limit new foods: Don't feed your pet new or unusual foods, even if they seem safe, and inform guests not to share their plates.

Environmental safety:
- Watch decorations: Be mindful of potentially toxic plants, like lilies and certain ferns, and keep decorations such as tinsel, ribbons, and decorative gourds out of reach.
- Secure the house: Keep pets away from countertops and tables. Consider using baby gates to block off areas and ensure all pets have a quiet, safe space to retreat to.

Guest etiquette:
- Inform guests: Ask your guests to refrain from feeding your pet any human food.
- Provide alternatives: Have pet-friendly treats available for guests to hand out instead of table scraps.
- Manage pet stress: Extra guests and noise can be stressful for pets. Ensure they have a safe, quiet place to go to relax.

We were lucky enough to honor Loxie this week with a basket of appreciation for her bravery and for being a prime example of why we do what we do. We've been lucky enough to watch Loxie grow up and we couldn't be more proud of her. Keep reading for a beautiful story of friendship and love.

It's incredible how animals can sense when something is wrong, often before we do. Their instincts and deep bonds with us can make all the difference in moments of need.

Last week, something unexpected happened. Our elderly widowed neighbor was sorting through her Fall decorations in her garage when she decided to rest on a plastic crate. Unfortunately, the crate collapsed, leaving her trapped and unable to get up.

That morning, I was out walking in my yard with our two Corgis, Loxie (who's 1 year old) and Tillie (who's 12). Loxie started heading toward our neighbor’s garage. The dogs adore her and usually enjoy visiting, but since I didn’t see her outside, I called Loxie back. Normally, she listens, but this time she paused, looked at me, then ignored my commands and headed straight for the neighbor’s garage.

Curious and slightly concerned, I decided to follow Loxie. As I got closer, I noticed Tillie had also picked up on something; her ears perked, and her gait quickened. Thankfully, I followed Loxie over and discovered the situation. The neighbor was petting and talking to Loxie, and I was able to carefully assist her to her feet, making sure she was okay before walking her back into her house. She was shaken but grateful, and I am so relieved that my dog knew something was amiss and did what she needed to do to get help.

Sometimes, we just need to respond to our dog’s signals and not ignore them.

Thanks,
Lucien & Kysandra
