Family Visitation Services - FVS

Family Visitation Services - FVS Providing professional monitors for supervised visitation in Southern California for over 30 years. Provide supervision over monitors.

Involved in over 1,000 child visitation cases and over 5,000 supervised visitations, monitoring contact between a child and their non-custodial parent or guardian, when allegations of domestic violence, abuse, neglect arise. Case referred divisions of the Los Angeles, Orange, Santa Barbara, and Ventura County Superior Courts, law firms, Attorneys, Mediators, Judges, DCFS, and by Family Preservation to provide emergency crisis support where parents have been removed from the home due to crime, abuse, or hospitalization. I have monitored under the supervision of a professional evaluator at night monitored parent and child during a visit, when requested by the court-appointed custody evaluator. Observe and document the child and the parent’s behavior and their interactions with one another regarding safety concerns and report to the court. I have provided visitations and emergency in-home care for at-risk foster children through the Department of Children and Family Services. Provided on-site and on-line training for monitoring staff, family law attorneys, judges, and parents. Provided out of city or out-of-state visitations for extended periods and accompanied children long distances for visitation or transport. Worked with high-profile individuals and families as a monitor, professional child escort, and facilitator of services for families in high-stress situations including distance traveling for monitoring on vacations and transporting children to treatment centers. Sensitive to difficult family dynamics complicated by cultural core values, Ilene is a compassionate force. She is an unorthodox problem solver and critical thinker. She believes that monitoring should be an opportunity for the family vs the outdated paradigm of using it as a "weapon" to gain a custodial advantage in family court. Ilene is insightful and solution-oriented, a trusted resource in a system that doesn't always seem to benefit the children and families.

Supervised visitation can feel unfamiliar at first — and sometimes overwhelming.

But these rules are not meant to make things difficult.
They are in place to create a safe, structured, and positive environment for your child.

Here are 5 important rules every parent should be aware of:

1. No discussing the court case
Visits should focus on your child — not legal matters or conflicts.

2. No negative comments about the other parent
Children should never feel caught in the middle.

3. Follow the monitor’s guidance at all times
Monitors are there to ensure safety and help keep the visit on track.

4. No unapproved third parties
Only those approved by the agency and court may be present.

5. Keep the focus on your child
Simple, positive interactions go a long way in building connection.

We understand that this process can be emotional for both parents.
That’s why our role is to provide a neutral, professional space where your child can feel secure and supported during every visit.

When everyone follows these guidelines, visits become more comfortable — not just for the child, but for both parents as well.

If you have questions about how supervised visitation works or what to expect, we’re here to help.

Send us a message — we’d be glad to guide you through the process.

When a court orders supervised visitation, it’s not just about following a legal requirement — it’s about creating a space where children can feel safe, supported, and protected.

At Family Visitation Services, safety is not a checklist — it’s the foundation of everything we do.

Our professional monitors are trained to:

• Remain within sight and hearing at all times
• Ensure all court-ordered rules are followed
• Redirect conversations that may cause distress
• Prevent unsafe situations before they escalate
• Maintain a calm, structured environment for the child

We understand that both parents may feel uncertain going into this process.

That’s why our role is to provide neutral, professional supervision — giving both parents the reassurance that:

✔ The visit is being handled properly
✔ The child’s wellbeing is the top priority
✔ Every interaction is documented accurately and fairly

Most importantly, we create an environment where children can simply be children — without pressure, fear, or conflict.

If you are navigating supervised visitation and have questions about how the process works, we are here to guide you every step of the way.

When a court orders supervised visitation, it is often during a time when families are navigating difficult circumstances. Our goal is to provide a structured, safe, and neutral environment where children can spend meaningful time with their parent while ensuring that court expectations are followed.

During supervised visits, the visiting parent (non-custodial parent) is expected to focus on creating a positive and supportive experience for the child. This includes maintaining respectful behavior and following the guidelines established by the court and the visitation provider.

Some important expectations include:

• Focusing conversations on the child and their wellbeing
• Avoiding discussions about the court case or legal matters
• Refraining from making negative comments about the other parent
• Following the monitor’s guidance during the visit
• Helping maintain a calm, safe, and respectful environment

Professional monitors are present to ensure that visits remain structured, neutral, and child-centered. Their role is to observe the visit, maintain safety, and document interactions in accordance with court requirements.

At Family Visitation Services, we understand that supervised visitation can feel unfamiliar or stressful for families. Our team is committed to helping both parents and children feel supported throughout the process while maintaining professionalism and neutrality.

If you have questions about supervised visitation or need guidance on how the process works, our team is here to help.
