The Friday drink was never about unwinding.

It was the signal. Week’s over. You made it. You earned this.

The drink was the vehicle, and I loved it.

I wanted the pause. I’d spent years connecting that pause to drinking.

I wanted the shift from work to life. The exhale. That moment when you finally sink into the couch and breathe…..

When you really think about it. The ritual doesn’t need alcohol. It needs intention and attention.

When you separate what you’re really craving from the thing you’ve been using to get it, everything shifts.

That’s when you feel you’ve truly made it.

My weekends still start with a glass of something beautiful. Same feeling, zero next-day heaviness.

It was the signal. Week’s over. You made it. You earned this.

When I found a better ride, that was when I truly made it.

I wanted the pause. I’d spent years connecting that pause to a drink.

A insightful read on a couples journey through alcohol.

A successful surgeon. His wife, a senior NHS manager. Two kids. Careers intact. From the outside, everything looked fine.

She thought HE was the one with the problem.
He was drinking 140 units a week - about 14 bottles of wine. Getting drunk after work, dragging the family to his drinking haunts on weekends.

“Alcohol was the social glue in every part of our lives. Charles was definitely drinking to excess but I didn’t see that as a problem, I thought it was sophisticated”.

She was just… coping. A bottle of wine at night to deal with the stress of doing it all alone. Work. Kids. The loneliness of being married to someone who wasn’t really there.
“Grey area drinking,” she called it. Not an alcoholic. Just surviving.
Then he quit. And she realized something she didn’t want to see.
The problem wasn’t just him.

Dry January? Easy. Staying stopped? Impossible. She’d reset in January, then make up for it in February.
Until she looked in the mirror at 50 and hated what she saw. Bloated. Exhausted. Disconnected from herself.
Her journey spanned 6 years from making an initial change, now four years alcohol-free, she says: “I don’t say I’ll never drink again. I say I’m not going to drink today. I don’t want to ruin tomorrow. For him it’s a certainty.

And their marriage? Completely different.
“We come home together earlier now. Have tea. Actually talk. We’ve grown together.”
Not because they white-knuckled their way through sobriety. But because they both finally dealt with what they were running from.

How many of us have had alcohol to be getting through our days, weeks, our relationships, marriages - we’re not broken. We’re human.

A powerful return & evolvement comes to a relationship when we finally make changes alone to quit alcohol, or together. It can be scary and unknown to again get to know each other minus the alcohol. I’ve seen it on my own relationship with my husband, Chris.

Today’s the day most people quit their resolutions.

If you don’t know WHY you started, you’ll never remember why you should keep going.

Your why isn’t “I should drink less”

Your why is:
I’m tired of apologizing for who I become after three glasses of wine.

I want to truly live presently and authentically, remember my life instead of piecing it together from text messages.

I refuse to spend another year feeling like a stranger in my own body.

That’s a foundation you don’t quit on.

So while everyone else may be throwing in the towel because “dry January is too hard”—

You’re not doing dry January.

You’re reclaiming yourself.
And that doesn’t have an expiration date.

Know your why. Own your why.
Everything else is just noise.

I AM:

✨A childhood survivor of physical abuse at the hands of a Father who portrayed otherwise. Who found her voice at 8 yrs old and said no more, including reuniting with her Mum. Adopted at 13.

✨A competitive dancer in her teens who turned pain into movement, trauma into strength and confidence.

✨Someone who’s walked through the sadness of addiction (not obvious to many) early abuse, and broken relationships - and came out the other side kind, loving, strong, intuitive, grateful - without a victim mentality.

✨A girl who glamorized the wrong things, high society partying in London during late teens.

✨A loving mother who broke decades of generational cycles, to two incredible boys.

✨Fiercely protective, deeply loyal, joyful, passionate, & quietly powerful. With deep friendships and loving relationships.

✨Hardworking entrepreneur with a foundation of plant based living & holistic wellness.

✨Living evidence that genetics, trauma, and upbringing are teachers, not life sentences

✨Committed to reprogramming mind, body, and spirit- a HUGE part of my healing journey.

✨Living Proof that your past doesn’t write your future - your choice on how to overcome and commitment to heal do.

This is why Pure Clarity exists.

At 52, this is going to be my life’s work. My purpose. To spend the rest of my days helping others realize the same power lives inside them. If you’ve beating yourself up for not showing up everywhere, this is your sign to stop. 🛑

I coach people how to let go of what’s not serving them. Today, I am taking my own advice. Between building my coaching business, 2026 event planning, new website launch, newsletters, biz travel, family priorities - it can be a lot. Social media is always the first to pause when I am feeling this way.

🍬 Candy Over Cocktails - Embrace your inner trick-or-treater, enjoying Halloween candy. (My favs, sour gummy’s, anything dark 🍫 dark chocolate)

👻 Haunt a Pumpkin Patch - Plan activities that don’t revolve around drinking: fright nights or a cozy movie marathon at home.

🕷️ Have an Exit Spell - If you’re heading to parties, have a plan to leave early if need be, bring a like-minded friend for support and on the same page.

Wake up November 1st feeling like a treat, not a trick! Clear headed into the weekend with a full heart. Not a heavy one.

Remember: The scariest thing isn’t skipping the booze - it’s forgetting who you are when you drink. You’ve got this! 💪✨
