For my Dad ❤️. Salvatore Joseph Spagnoli
Happy Veterans Day to my dad who always had my back , and our countries too . Serving in World War 2 , he was a supply sergeant and was awarded with extra stripes for his meritorious service. Sam’s deployment was worldwide and he narrowly lost his life along with his fellow soldiers. A torpedo narrowly missed the bow of their vessel . Unfortunately it struck the Army vessel to the right sinking it and killing many .He rarely spoke of it , but was emotionally traumatized . My Salvatore Joseph Spagnoli also contracted Rheumatic Fever which severely damaged his heart while in Papa New Guinea . Incredibly, my father never played the victim throughout his entire life . His Italian family came from Calabria Italy and due to poverty and the loss of his father , his mother with 5 boys and no money suffered a nervous breakdown Dad and his brothers were sent to various work farms in Massachusetts and were raised by strangers on farms. Even with that childhood my Dad was serviceman and a fantastic father , and hard working provider for our family . We should all be mindful of the sacrifices made by these men and woman. The freedoms we enjoy today like free speech and religious freedom are the result of all of their sacrifices. Luckily for “Sam” …it wasn’t the ultimate sacrifice ( death) but one that befall so many of other veterans giving their lives in wars and conflicts. Not to mention the veterans who came back wounded for life physically and emotionally. America is and always will be the land of opportunity and freedom . That’s why everyone tries to come here 😉 !! Somber Veterans Day Dad ……..❤️ miss you terribly He loved to recite his military career and where it took him ) I miss that exchange we had every V day. 💙 …… 🥲
