Hormone replacement therapy changed my life more than any serum, any laser, any procedure.

It changed my skin. My sleep. My body composition. My brain.

And the fact that women have to fight to get it, that doctors dismiss it, that we're made to feel like asking for hormones is somehow dramatic?

That is some bu****it.

I spent years hearing "your levels are normal for your age."

Normal for my age.

What does that even mean?

That I should feel like garbage because I'm over 40 and that's just how it goes?

No.

I found a doctor who actually listened. She changed my protocol.

And within weeks I felt like a completely different human being.

If you are over 40 and you haven't had a full hormone panel with someone who specializes in this... please.

I love Botox.

I don't know how else to say it.

If Botox were a person I would have its babies. Judge me.

Nobody ever says "you look like you got Botox."

They say "you look rested."

And I say "thank you" and I keep it moving.

Because what am I going to say? "Actually, Susan, I let a woman stick a needle full of poison in my forehead last Tuesday?"

(I mean I would say that. But most people don't want to hear it over brunch.)

The key is finding someone who doesn't overdo it.

Because there is a version of this that looks like you're permanently surprised by your own life.

There’s one treatment I’ve done that made me look in the mirror and genuinely not recognize myself.

(In a good way. The kind where you stand there going “oh... hey. Come here often?”)

The fractional CO2 and erbium combo laser is the closest thing to a factory reset for your face.

I’ve spent an irresponsible amount of time and money trying things and this one treatment outperformed all of them.

The catch? You will look like a murder victim for about a month.

You can’t wear makeup for three weeks.

Your social life is over.

You’re going to FaceTime your best friend and she’s going to pause for way too long before she says “it looks great.”

(It does not look great. You look like you fell asleep on a George Foreman grill.)

But when that new skin comes through?

Worth every terrifying day.
