The Su***de Awareness Walk went well despite all the rain and I am very thankful to all those that came out to show their support.

I am proud to say that the walk raised $9,994.00 to help with Mental Health and Su***de Prevention. Thank you to everyone who did fundraising to support such an important cause.

If any businesses or schools would like to utilize these funds please reach out to AFSP's Maine Chapter and they would be happy to bring their resouces to you. www.afsp.org/maine

I also want to thank all of the sponsors that helped to make the walk possible. This year sponsors were Calais Dunkin, Johnsons True Value, Downeast Credit Union, Downeast & Calais Community Hospitals, Flying Eagle Lodge, Calais Skatepark, and the Polar Treat.
We are greatful for you all and for all of the volunteers that helped the day of the walk as well. You all are helping make change and save lives!

I hope that the event was helpful to all those that needed it and from this that we can create conversations that allow mental health checks to become normal while helping to reduce the su***de rate. Remember your life matter and please reach out if you need help.

Sorry for the delayed post, but a huge thank you to everyone that attended the su***de awareness walk. I brought the walk to this area as I knew it was not only needed for those of us struggling with a su***de loss, but also for those struggling with their own mental health battles. Little did I know that in doing this walk I would also be supporting myself with my own grief from all of your support, as well as, giving myself a sense of purpose where I felt that if I could just help someone else not have to feel what myself and many other like me have gone thru.
Su***de loss is unlike any other loss with such a plethora of emotions that goes with it and honestly after having dealt with this type of loss, it's almost impossible for someone to be the same person they were before losing their loved one to su***de. I pray that this walk will help keep people out of the darkness so that no more lives are lost. If you are struggling please reach out for help as we would want to support you rather than mourn you not here with us on this earth!
I am so please to say that we started with a $10,000 goal and we ended up increasing it to $15,000 as you all were doing so amazing.
I am please to say that currently, we have also surpassed our second goal and have raised $16,460. WOW, You all are amazing! The number may continue to grow as some of the credit card payments come thru as well. My coordinator and myself are already trying to plan a community event for folks to help gain a better understanding of su***de risk factors, warning signs and basic interventions. Without your help we couldn't do these events.
Finally, a huge huge thank you to all those who helped me behind the scenes or even just provided me moral support; it was all greatly appreciated. (You know who you all are) Thank you to all the sponsor for their kind donations and supporting this event. And a huge thank you to my family for supporting me on this journey.
I have attached as many pictures as I could and photo credits of what I have goes to Char Woodruff. If anyone would like to add pictures to this page you are more than welcome to share. Or also we ecourage all walkers to add any photos or comments to the virtual memory wall at the link below. http://padlet.com/maine4/2021OOTDMaine
Again, Thank you all and I am looking forward to next year already. We can renew and start our teams up again in January. If anyone has any questions or would like resources please feel free to reach out to me. If I don't have an answer I will find one. Love to you all that are struggling with grief and those struggling please remember to reach out as your life matters. 1.800.273.TALK or text TALK to 741741 to speak with trained counselors any time day or night. God Bless you all!πŸ’™πŸ’œπŸ’™πŸ’œ
