We're celebrating National Health Center week here at EHC, a special week for our team to celebrate our community, patients and staff as we reflect on the years past, recognize where we are today and look to the future as we grow and strengthen our patient care. We are so very proud to be part of the Eastport & Machias communities serving patients from across Washington County and beyond. Thank you for supporting local health care.

With warm weather comes tick season and as you may know, tick borne diseases can be serious business. If you find that you've been bit, please don't panic. Here are some tips to help you and your healthcare provider deal with a bite:

1. Check your skin daily for ticks, including your scalp, ears, armpits and groin. The longer a tick is attached, the greater your chances of contracting infection.
2. Remove the tick using a pair of tweezers or a tick removal tool. Grasp as close to the skin as possible and pull straight up.
3.Disinfect the area and mark the date on your calendar.
4. Identify your tick, measure and take a picture if you're able to and note if it is engorged.
5. Monitor the site for 30 days.
6. Watch for a rash, swelling & redness.
7. Call your P*P if the tick was attached for more than 48 hours or if you develop a rash, swelling or redness at the site.

We live in Vacationland, so get outside and explore! But leave the ticks behind.
