Behind every great patient story is a care provider who made a difference.

Meet our latest Ontario DAISY Award winner, Kayla McPheeters.

Kayla is from the Ontario Obstetrics Department, and she is our 2nd Quarter DAISY Award honoree!

Kayla exemplifies the spirit of compassionate care that the DAISY Award celebrates. Her dedication, empathy, and personal touch have left a lasting impact on the families she serves. One nomination beautifully captured her extraordinary care:

"Kayla not only took care of our baby, but offered sound wisdom when it was needed, gave my wife a hug when she was in tears, and provided encouragement through sharing about her family, as well as offering us food in the night."

This is just one example of how Kayla goes above and beyond to support patients and their families—not just clinically, but emotionally and personally.

Join us in congratulating Kayla on this well-deserved recognition!

Her kindness and professionalism make a difference every day.

Language barriers should not prevent the quality of health care for a patient and their family.

That makes the role of on-site and virtual medical interpreters critical.

From our gold-standard of in-person interpretation to our virtual interpreter support, all patients have access to care in their own language.

Medical interpreter Madeline Escobedo and Saint Alphonsus Pediatrician Dr. Preston Omer sat down with KTVB Español to share more about the importance of access to care.

Check it out the complete interview at https://www.ktvb.com/article/news/local/en-espanol/interpretacin-mdica-clave-para-una-atencin-calidad/277-b7a79973-7484-4c3b-b5b9-e222be7c59e8

La tecnología facilita la interpretación médica, pero la atención presencial sigue siendo clave para una comunicación efectiva.

He's the "Superman Cyclist."

At 88 years young, Ron, an avid cyclist was out doing what he loves most—riding the open road. But on this day, the road had just been chip-sealed, making visibility of the curb nearly impossible.

In a split second, his front wheel caught the edge, and he was launched into the air—performing what he later called a “Superman” over the handlebars.

The landing was rough. He suffered a fracture to his left hip—specifically, an intertrochanteric femur fracture. But here’s where the story takes a turn: after surgery to place a rod and pin in his hip, he was cleared for full weight-bearing almost immediately.

With determination and grit, he’s now back to his active lifestyle—proving that age is just a number, and resilience knows no bounds.

Jeffrey Low, MD Orthopedic Trauma Surgeon at Saint Alphonsus was proud to care for Ron and glad he is back on his bike!

It's been one year since the accident.

At the 2024 Tour de Force charity event in Sun Valley, Ron Martinez and his friend Zach Alder set out in a Porsche 911 Turbo S convertible, ready to break speeds of more than 200 MPH.

But, as the car hit 211 MPH, it bottomed out, triggering a series of more than 15 devastating flips until the car finally came to a stop.

Both were airlifted to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center where Ron was treated by the trauma and orthopedic trauma teams for more than 54 broken bones, a brain bleed, and a fractured pelvis.

While the probability of survival, especially within the first 24 hours, was slim, Ron and his care team were ready to take on the fight for his life.

Committed to patient care.
A passion to serve others from patients to fellow colleagues.
And, a lasting source of knowledge and expertise.

This what comes to mind when fellow colleagues think of Cheyenne Holsclaw.

Earlier this month, Cheyenne, a Nursing Supervisor for Saint Alphonsus Medical Group General Surgery, was honored for these qualities as the 2025 recipient of the Saint Alphonsus Medical Group Sisters' Legacy Award.

“Cheyenne has been the colleague who has demonstrated true focus on patient care,” said Ernest Elliot SAMG Area Practice Manager. “She has shown up for patients and her fellow team members every day with passion to help others.”

Join us in celebrating Cheyenne's commitment to serving as a transformative, healing presence in our community.

Our physical therapists are committed to movement - for patients and themselves.

Paul Morrison, one of our physical therapists, stays active as a triathlete. This weekend, he will compete in IRONMAN 70.3 Boise, rounding out 3 full Ironmans and 21 half Ironmans. His days are full of fitness, family and full days of back to back patients.

While training is important, family comes first. He’s up early and to bed late, squeezing in workouts around morning and evening time with his wife and two young children. “I don’t want to take away time from my kids and family,” he said. “Sometimes you miss the workout, and that’s okay.”

Keep an eye out for Paul and our Saint Alphonsus colleagues at this weekend's race!

Be sure to stop by and say hi.
