The theme of this winter in therapy is grief. This happens a lot, for large groups of people to be going through the same thing at the same time. Sometimeses it’s not even something huge, it can be three clients all talking about having to get a new roof in the samee week.
My former cop client called it “The public vibe.”
If you work in medicine or therapy/coaching for a while it’s not a surprise death literally or symbolically comes this time of year.
So I don’t know if this makes anyone feel better but almost everyone is having a more difficult time than usual. And honestly even if it’s not personal grief how much of it have we heard of in the mainstream media? We’re completely surrounded by it.
Traditional chineses medicine would say just as the leaves start falling off in November, people or other things may continue to fall off untill winter is over. But all of this has its purposes, to make room for what’s coming in our lives next. The natural cycles of life.
Hang in there. 39 days till spring.

Advice from Tara the human and Tara the therapist: Go see stand up comedy!
Since I was young I’ve always loved watching stand up. I probably follow that more closely than I do actual tv.
There is such a therapeutic value to comedy. Watching other people be human and seeing their frustrations are the same as ours. Then watching them craft that into a joke or story where we can all relate.
I know I live in an area where I can see the greats easily but there are always non famous comedians out and about.
