Some tips for couples who argue about politics and world events:

- Set boundaries around political conversations. Either partner should be allowed to stop or limit conversations that feel overwhelming.
- Notice if your social media algorithm is leading you to demonize the other side. If the other side is all demons, and your spouse is on the other side, what does that make your spouse?
- Stop trying to change your partner's beliefs. If you want to do political activism, go ahead, but keep it out of your marriage.

Practicing a technique called cyclic sighing for five minutes a day tops other breathing techniques in calming anxiety, study shows.

✨ Staff Spotlight ✨
Meet Chris Tomkins, Clinical Director of Caldwell Mental Health.
Chris is passionate about helping men become their best selves — healthy, strong, and loving. He works with men who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, anger, or addiction, especially those who feel unsure about starting therapy. He also supports lost young men seeking connection, direction, and purpose, as well as high-conflict couples working toward healthier dynamics.
Chris is known for being down-to-earth and easy to talk to. He naturally evokes motivation and hope, helping clients move from feeling stuck to taking meaningful action. His approach is practical, action-oriented, and goal-directed, coaching individuals and couples toward closer, more peaceful relationships.
Many of Chris’s clients are referred by concerned wives, girlfriends, and mothers who want to see the men in their lives feel better, communicate more effectively, and thrive.
We’re grateful for Chris’s leadership and the steady, compassionate presence he brings to our team and community. 💙

“The antidote to toxic shame is empathic understanding.”

Shame thrives in silence, isolation, and the belief that something about you is “too much” or “not enough.” But healing begins when your story is met with empathy instead of judgment.

In therapy, you are given space to be seen, heard, and understood—without criticism or shame. Through empathic understanding, it becomes possible to soften self-judgment, build self-compassion, and reconnect with your inherent worth.

You are not broken. You are human. And you deserve support that meets you with compassion.

If you’ve been carrying shame alone, therapy can help you begin to release it. 🤍

There is a wise part of you that already knows. Therapy isn’t about giving you answers you don’t have—it’s about helping you quiet the noise, slow down, and reconnect with that inner voice.

So often, anxiety, self-doubt, and life’s stressors can make it hard to trust yourself. In therapy, we create space for clarity, self-understanding, and healing—at your pace, in your way.

You don’t have to figure everything out alone. The answers aren’t outside of you—they’re within you. Sometimes, you just need a place to listen.

If you’ve been feeling the pull to start therapy, Caldwell Mental Health is here for you

We provide this type of couples therapy here in Caldwell.

"I don’t want women to stand down from their demands. I want men to stand up and meet them," the therapist Terry Real says on the Modern Love podcast. Unlike a lot of couples’ therapists, Terry takes sides and tries to get to the truth of what’s going on. https://nyti.ms/4kbYojE
