We had a great time hosting the Caldwell Health Coalition booth at the Caldwell Farm to Fork Market last night! Through this program, seniors ages 60+ can receive vouchers to use to purchase fresh, nutritious, local fruits and vegetables from the market 🍅🥕🍉
A huge thank you to the local farmers and vendors who help make this program so amazing! Come see us at the Caldwell Farm to Fork Market next Wednesday, August 6th. Vouchers are available on a first come, first serve basis until they run out.

Last week, two of our public health professionals attended the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Annual NACCHO360 Public Health Conference .

Brandon VanSlochteren accepted the 2025 Promising Practice Award on behalf of Southwest District Health and the Land Development Team for their innovative project, Enhancing Septic System Documentation Through the Integration of Drone Technology. This nationally recognized initiative showcases leadership in public health, sets a new standard for septic system documentation, and highlights the team’s forward-thinking use of drone technology to improve services for homeowners and installers alike across southwest Idaho.

The Western Idaho Youth Support Center will help set youth in crisis on a path to healing. Located at 308 E Hawaii Ave in Nampa, the center is open 24 hours a day, every day to provide youth ages 5-17 FREE mental and behavioral health services any time, day or night.

Recent sources of local gastrointestinal illness include raw meat cross contamination, drinking irrigation water from a hose, and handling of livestock.

To help prevent exposure to gastrointestinal illnesses, consider the following:
🥩Always wash your hands and cutlery after handling raw meat and do not cross contaminate raw meat with other foods.
🐓Wash hands after handling livestock, including backyard chickens.
🫗Ensure drinking water is filtered and think twice before drinking from an irrigation hose. Irrigation water carries bacteria that can cause illness and is not for drinking or playing in.
🍅If you use irrigation water for your garden, wash fruits and veggies thoroughly before consuming. Because no one wants to spend their summer days stuck in the bathroom!

We are excited to announce that SWDH Parents as Teachers and Nurse Family Partnership programs are the proud recipients of a $20,000 grant from Idaho-based Laura Moore Cunningham foundation. The funds will be used to enhance early childhood reading and learning materials for the nearly 200 families that PAT and NFP programs support throughout southwest Idaho. The grant will also support group gatherings with healthy snacks and meals.
