Our Idaho Foot and Ankle Specialists Help People With Diabetes Care for Their Feet

Diabetes is a chronic medical condition that affects how your body metabolizes sugar. When you have diabetes, your body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use the insulin it does make efficiently. Insulin is a hormone that helps to regulate the amount of sugar in your blood.

There are two main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the body does not produce enough insulin. People with type 1 diabetes must take insulin daily to keep their blood sugar levels in check. Type 2 diabetes develops when the body either doesn't make enough insulin or can't use the insulin it does make effectively. Type 2 diabetes is most often managed through diet, exercise, and medication.

If left untreated, diabetes can cause serious health problems like heart disease, stroke, kidney damage, and nerve damage. What most people fail to realize, however, is that diabetes can also put your feet at risk.

Why Do My Feet Sweat And What Can I Do About It?

Sweaty feet are a common problem that many people are embarrassed to talk about. But if you’ve ever noticed damp socks, slippery sandals, or an unpleasant odor at the end of the day, you’re not alone. Excessive sweating of the feet—known medically as plantar hyperhidrosis—can affect people of all ages and activity levels. While it may seem like just an annoyance, sweaty feet can lead to real problems if not addressed.
