🎄 December Health Observances at Eastern Plains Medical Clinic

🎄Hello, community! As we wrap up the year and celebrate the holiday season, December is a wonderful time to focus on various health observances that promote well-being. At Eastern Plains Medical Clinic, we’re committed to supporting the health of our patients and community. Here’s what we’re highlighting this December:

💚 National Handwashing Awareness Week (December 1-7): Proper hand hygiene is one of the simplest and most effective ways to prevent the spread of illnesses. Remember to wash your hands regularly, especially during the holiday season when gatherings are common!

💚 Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) Awareness: As daylight hours shorten, many people may experience SAD, a type of depression related to changes in seasons. If you’re feeling down or fatigued, consider talking to a healthcare professional about ways to cope and manage symptoms.

💚 National Influenza Vaccination Week (December 6-12): This week emphasizes the importance of getting your flu shot. Vaccination is key to preventing the flu and protecting yourself and those around you during the holiday season.

💚 World AIDS Day (December 1): Observed annually on December 1, World AIDS Day raises awareness about HIV/AIDS, supports those living with the disease, and remembers those who have lost their lives to it. Let’s continue to educate ourselves and promote testing and treatment options.

💚 Healthy Weight Week (December 26-January 1): This week encourages individuals to focus on healthy lifestyles rather than weight loss. Embrace balanced eating and physical activity as part of your wellness routine, especially during the holiday festivities.

💚 National Stress-Free Family Holidays Month: The holidays can be a stressful time for many. This month, prioritize your mental health by finding ways to de-stress and enjoy quality time with loved ones. Consider relaxation techniques like mindfulness, yoga, or simply spending time outdoors.

💚 National Safe Toys and Gifts Month: As you shop for gifts this holiday season, remember to choose safe toys and gifts for children. Check for age-appropriate labels and avoid items with small parts that could pose a choking hazard.

At Eastern Plains Medical Clinic, we’re here to support your health journey every step of the way.

📞 For more information or to schedule an appointment, please call us at 719-347-0100. Let’s prioritize our health together this December and celebrate the joys of the season!

🍂 November Health Observances at Eastern Plains Medical Clinic 🍂

Hello, community! As we transition into November, it’s important to recognize the various health observances that help raise awareness and promote well-being. At Eastern Plains Medical Clinic, we’re dedicated to supporting the health of our patients and community. Here’s what we’re highlighting this November:

💚 National Diabetes Month: This month shines a spotlight on diabetes awareness and education. Understanding diabetes management is crucial for those affected and can help prevent complications. If you have questions about diabetes or need support, we’re here to help!

💚 Lung Cancer Awareness Month: November is dedicated to raising awareness about lung cancer, the leading cause of cancer deaths. Early detection through screenings can significantly improve outcomes. Talk to your healthcare provider about your lung health and risk factors.

💚 National Family Caregivers Month: Let’s honor and support family caregivers who provide essential care to loved ones. Caregiving can be challenging, so it’s important for caregivers to take care of their own health as well. If you’re a caregiver, remember that you’re not alone—resources are available to assist you.

💚 Great American Smokeout (November 16): This day encourages smokers to quit smoking and offers support for those looking to kick the habit. If you’re considering quitting, reach out to us for resources and guidance on your journey to a smoke-free life.

💚 National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month: November is a time to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. Educating ourselves about the signs and symptoms can lead to earlier diagnosis and better support for those affected.

💚 World Diabetes Day (November 14): A global event focused on raising awareness of diabetes and its impact. Join us in promoting education and resources for diabetes prevention and management.

💚 National Healthy Skin Month: As the weather changes, taking care of your skin is essential. November is a great time to review your skincare routine and prioritize healthy habits to protect your skin during the colder months.

At Eastern Plains Medical Clinic, we’re here to support your health journey every step of the way.

💚 Breast Cancer Awareness Month: This month, we unite to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection. Regular screenings and self-exams can save lives. Encourage the women in your life to schedule their mammograms!
💚 Mental Health Awareness Month: Mental health is just as vital as physical health. Let’s break the stigma surrounding mental health issues and promote open conversations. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help, and there are resources available to support you.

Colorado’s tick season is in full swing. To prevent tick-borne disease, check your clothing and body after you are in grassy, brushy, or wooded outdoor areas for ticks. If you find a tick, remove it with fine-tipped tweezers, pulling upward with steady, even pressure.

Find information about tick-related infections, as well as instructions for removing embedded ticks, at cdc.gov/ticks/index.html

🌟 Celebrate National Immunization Awareness Month with Eastern Plains Medical Clinic! 🌟

August is National Immunization Awareness Month (NAIM), a perfect opportunity to emphasize the importance of vaccines for both children and adults. At Eastern Plains Medical Clinic, we focus on family medicine and preventative services to keep our community healthy!
Vaccines play a crucial role in protecting against serious diseases. Here are some of the most common vaccines you should be aware of:

👶 For Children:
DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis): Protects against these serious bacterial infections.

MMR (Measles, Mumps, and Rubella): Essential for preventing these highly contagious viral diseases.

Polio Vaccine: Critical in preventing poliomyelitis, a potentially disabling disease.

Varicella (Chickenpox): Helps protect against chickenpox, which can lead to serious complications.

RSV Vaccine: Newly available to help protect infants and young children from respiratory syncytial virus, which can cause severe respiratory illness.

👩‍⚕️ For Adults:
Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap): Recommended every 10 years to maintain immunity.

Influenza (Flu Vaccine): An annual vaccine that helps protect against seasonal flu.

Shingles Vaccine: Recommended for adults over 50 to prevent shingles, a painful rash caused by the reactivation of the chickenpox virus.

COVID-19 Vaccine: Essential for reducing the risk of severe illness and hospitalization.

RSV Vaccine: Recently approved for older adults to reduce the risk of severe respiratory illness from RSV.

Vaccination not only protects you but also helps safeguard those around you, especially vulnerable populations.

📞 For more information about vaccines or to schedule an appointment, call us at 719-347-0100. Let’s work together to keep our community healthy and thriving!
