Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad

Tewksbury First Aid and Rescue Squad TFARS is a volunteer organization providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and rescue services. Our ranks consist of approximately 45 unpaid volunteers.

The Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad (TFARS) was established in 1990 by dedicated volunteers who served our community volunteering with other fire and first aid & rescue squads and joined together to establish TFARS. We have been providing excellence in prehospital care for over three decades. TFARS provides Basic Life Support (BLS) and various forms of rescue services. We currently have 2 BLS Units (ambulances), 2 first responder vehicles, 1 off-road rescue vehicle and 1 rescue vehicle. Since its inception, the squad has never charged a patient a single cent for the services we provide. Our annual budget is met entirely through donations and fundraising events. Our ranks also include a vibrant cadet program consisting of young women and men from the ages of 14 to 17.

Last night Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad had the honor of participating in the Hunterdon County Emergency Services Graduation recognizing Emergency Medical Technicians and Firefighters who completed their respective programs in 2025. New Tewksbury EMTs Cameron Tarpley, Nicholas DiStefano, Amelia Chlipalski, and Jonathan Liccardi were recognized for completing approximately 200 hours of coursework and passing the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam. All four honorees began providing free emergency medical services in our community in 2025. Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue would like to thank them for their dedication to our residents and visitors. Does your driveway or the path to your door still look like this? It might be enough for you to function, but uncleared driveways and sidewalks can dramatically slow the response of emergency services. Help us help you by clearing the access all the way from the street to an accessible door. Check on elderly or infirm neighbors who may need our assistance the most to be sure we can get to them should an emergency strike. This snow isn't going anywhere on it's own any time soon!

Tewksbury Rescue's volunteers spent the last few days preparing for the storm. We checked all of our cold weather gear and made sure that we are ready to respond, should the need arise. We added some traction assistance devices to our vehicles and stocked up on salt and shovels. Our station will be staffed as much as possible during this weather event. We even brought in some additional provisions for those members who will stay at our station this weekend. No need to buy any more mustard for a while, though.

Please stay off the roads. If you absolutely must go out, please drive slowly and safely.

Please join us in recognizing Bill "Doc" Voyce for his incredible 30 years of service with the Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad. Over the decades, Doc has served in numerous leadership positions in the Squad and made a lasting impact on our team and our community. Among his many accomplishments as a member of Tewksbury Rescue, almost immediately after joining the Squad, Doc was instrumental in having the Squad's current headquarters building constructed, allowing the Squad to move out of the unheated DPW shed which had previously served as the Squad's base of operations.

While his EMT certification expired for the final time at the stroke of midnight on December 31, 2025, we are grateful that Doc will continue to be an active and valued member of our Squad. Thank you, Doc, for your dedication and commitment to Tewksbury!

Over the weekend, members of Tewksbury First Aid & Rescue Squad joined forces with Scout Troop 199 (Oldwick) to test a new radio repeater system covering Tewksbury. This new system will improve communications in our community and enhance interagency operability in emergency situations. Over the course of several hours, Squad members and Scouts drove more than 80 miles around Tewksbury and collected 220 data points, which will be used to find and improve the areas of weak coverage. The Squad's own Cadet Captain EMT Drew Patykula is leading this effort as his Eagle Scout service project.

Our Story

The Squad was established in 1990 by dedicated volunteers who were serving our community through other Fire, First Aid and Rescue Services. We have been providing excellence in prehospital care for almost three decades. Our prehospital services range from Basic Life Support (BLS) to extrication during MVA's (motor vehicle accidents) to various other forms of Rescue Services. We currently have 2 BLS Units, 1 First Responders, 1 Gator for Off Road Rescue/Transport and 1 Rescue Unit. We consist of approximately 25 active volunteers whose efforts result in 100% free service to Tewksbury Township citizens and guests. These dedicated volunteers hold various positions, participate in different committees and fulfill all of the training and continuing education required to serve the Township. Our ranks also include a vibrant Cadet program, members who are also Firefighters and members who ride with other Squads.
