This week is OSHA’s Safe + Sound week, which recognizes the successes of workplace safety and encourages organizations to improve their own safety initiatives.

In 2023, hand injures made up about 10% of all workplace injuries in the U.S. Even minor hand injuries (cuts, sprains) can impact grip strength, fine motor skills, and range of motion — making it difficult to perform daily work tasks like typing, lifting, using tools, or driving. For some, it means months off work.

The 4th of July is a time to celebrate and be with family & friends! Summertime fun, grilling, and fireworks. Unfortunately, it is estimated that around 230 people will be in the emergency room due to firework-related injuries during this time of the year. It is most common for these injuries to be related to the hands and fingers.

With the 4th of July weekend starting, we wanted to share some helpful tips from the American Society for Surgery of the Hand to keep you and your hands safe this year!

🎇 “Never place any part of your body directly over a fireworks device when lighting the fuse. Back up to a safe distance immediately after lighting fireworks.

🧨 Never try to re-light or pick up fireworks that have not ignited fully.

💧 Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose handy in case of fire.

🎆 Never carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.

💦 After fireworks complete their burning, douse it with plenty of water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.”

Happy Feel Good Friday! Meet Addie!

Addie tore her ACL while playing field hockey and then had surgery to repair it with the BEAR procedure. The rehab timeline is longer with this type of ACL surgery, but Addie mustered through the long 11 months of PT and excelled. She amazed us all with her work ethic and is now stronger than she ever was before surgery! Now, she looks forward to her upcoming field hockey season where we know she will shine!

Good luck Addie! We will miss you! 🏑
