In the adoption industry, language is very gendered, in ways that can alienate people who don't fit into prescribed and/or binary gender norms, making it even harder for some birthparents to find the help they need after placement. While we use terms like 'birthmother' or 'birthfather' in a lot of our material, because our language mirrors that of the adoption industry, we are here for any person who gave birth and placed that child for adoption, or whose partner did, regardless of gender or identity. On Your Feet Foundation is committed to fostering a community that celebrates the uniquely individual experiences that have brought each of us to adoption. We strive to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive space in order to create a culture of safety and belonging for all of our stakeholders, one in which each voice is valued and heard. https://f.mtr.cool/oafqeujlyu

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can develop after a terrifying or deeply distressing experience. Common symptoms include nightmares, flashbacks, heightened anxiety, and intrusive thoughts related to the trauma.

Adoption-competent therapist Jessica Moses, MSW, MDiv., LICSW, RYT 200 explores how PTSD can uniquely affect adoptees with experiences in adoption, foster, or kinship care. While the effects of PTSD can be painful and overwhelming, Jessica shares how families and adoptees can take steps toward healing—through therapy, secure attachments, and support.

💛 Modern Adoption Mondays

Choosing adoption doesn’t mean you don’t love your child.
It means you love them so deeply, you’re choosing what’s best—even when it’s hard.

Modern adoption recognizes that placing a child is an act of courage, not abandonment. It’s a thoughtful, loving decision made with your child’s future in mind.

Let’s shift the narrative—because love is at the heart of adoption.

What an honor it has been working for Vista Del Mar both as a full time employee in the adoptions and foster care department and as a contractor in the same department. It’s because of people like Reuben Panner that adoptions changed for the better and that we now have open adoptions!

Today we celebrate the legacy of Vista’s former Director of Adoptions and trailblazer in open adoption, Reuben Pannor.

Together with fellow Vista Del Mar social worker Annette Baran, Reuben authored the revolutionary book ‘The Adoption Triangle,’ which became a cornerstone of the open adoption movement.

Open adoption emphasizes the vital importance of fostering connections between adopted children and their birth families.

This groundbreaking approach transformed adoption practices forever. Prior to this influential work, the concept of birth parents maintaining relationships with children placed for adoption was virtually unthinkable.

The profound impact of open adoption has created countless meaningful bonds between adopted children and their biological families.
This photograph captures Reuben in his office on Vista’s campus in 1984. He passed away in early 2013. On behalf of the countless children and families whose lives you touched, we honor your memory.

Got back last night from the National Council For Adoption conference in Minneapolis. What an amazing conference full of new information, meeting new people, and reconnecting with those I already know! I got a chance to visit the Mall of America and meet up in person with one of the most amazing co-workers (Kate) from Mavida Health. I can’t wait for next year in DC! Thanks you NCFA for everything!!!
