The SCCS team was proud to attend the Stand Up to Stigma 5K hosted by Loma Linda University Behavioral Health. Together, we’re helping raise awareness for behavioral health and encouraging open conversations that reduce stigma and strengthen our community.

Meet the people who make our mission come alive. Their journeys, their heart, and their commitment create the change we’re proud to share. 💙

From supporting adult with severe needs in our general mental health program, to becoming a supervisor in various programs and now serving as an HR Clinical Trainer, Ashleigh continues to make an impact across every stage of the journey at South Coast Community Services.

While helping guide and support our growing clinical team, Ashleigh also continues providing specialized EMDR support to clients — bringing compassion, experience, and healing into every space they serve.

We’re grateful for clinicians who continue to grow with purpose while staying connected to the heart of the work: supporting people. ✨

Not every coping skill has to be complicated.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is pause… and breathe with intention. 💙

Our clinician Vanessa is demonstrating “box breathing” — a simple grounding technique that can help during moments of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, or emotional overload.

⬜ Inhale for 4
⬜ Hold for 4
⬜ Exhale for 4
⬜ Hold for 4

Repeat until your body starts to feel safe again. It is recommended to try box breathing for about more than a few mins to start feeling the effects.

Mental health tools don’t have to be perfect to be effective. Small moments of care count too.

Save this for the days that feel heavy.

No family is “perfect” but a lot of families are struggling silently.

And most of the time, it’s not because they don’t care.

It’s because they may not know how to communicate, regulate, or repair conflict effectively.

Family therapy isn’t about blame.

It’s about understanding patterns, building trust, and creating a healthier dynamic for everyone—especially kids.

If you’ve ever thought:
“Is this just a phase?”
“Are we doing something wrong as parents?”

You’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out alone either.

Save this for later or share it with another parent who needs this reminder.

Healthy families aren’t the ones without problems—
They’re the ones who learn how to work through them. Deciding when to start therapy can be hard, but it doesn’t have to be.

Call us if you have questions, we’re here when you are ready.

We were absolutely honored to be part of Neurodivergent Family Night at Pretend City Children’s Museum.

Connecting with families and being part of such a welcoming, inclusive space was incredibly meaningful to our team. Events like these create opportunities for families to spend quality time together while also connecting with valuable community resources and support.

At South Coast Community Services, we’re grateful for the chance to share how we support children, individuals, and families through trauma-informed mental health and behavioral health services across California.

We’re excited to continue partnering with Pretend City and look forward to joining more of these special evenings with families in our community. 💙

🗓️Save and follow to visit us at the next event!

To the one who loves, nurtures, guides, protects, comforts, and shows up with a mother’s heart — today is for you.

Motherhood and motherly love come in many forms, and every role matters deeply.

Happy Mother’s Day to every kind of mom and motherly figure.

Sometimes the answer isn’t having the perfect words. Sometimes it’s simply being there.

Sitting with them in the hard moments.

Helping them feel safe, heard, loved, and understood.

Our supervisor, Amber, reminds us that as parents and caregivers, it’s easy to feel pressure to have all the right answers and fix the pain. But connection matters more than perfection.

Your presence, patience, and willingness to listen can make a powerful difference in your child’s emotional world.

And when extra support is needed, you do not have to navigate it alone. Help is available—for children and for the caregivers doing their best every single day.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s remind families that support starts with showing up. 💙
