Hospice is a philosophy of caring for those with a life-threatening illness. Hospice focuses on patient and family-centered care that addresses the physical, emotional, spiritual and practical needs of the patient. Hospice cares for patients in a variety of settings: home, nursing homes, assisted living centers and the Hospice House. The goal of hospice services is best expressed in the words of modern-day hospice founder Dame Cicely Saunders: "You matter because you are you. We will do all we can, not only to help you die in peace, but also to live until you die."

We’re still dealing with ice and frigid temperatures across our region after the recent storm. If you’re still digging out, we hope you’re staying safe. ❤️ Hazardous conditions have made shoveling especially difficult, and it’s important to take precautions to avoid injury.

Dr. Miriam Fischer, emergency medicine physician, spoke with the Washington Post and shared tips on how to stay safe while clearing snow and ice.

Remember to dress in layers and wear shoes with proper tread to help prevent slips and falls. Dr. Fischer also emphasizes taking it slow: “You can overexert yourself and strain muscles.”

In honor of National Freedom Day, we're taking time to recognize the signing of the Thirteenth Amendment, which abolished slavery in the United States. Today also marks the start of Black History Month in the U.S., and we take pride in celebrating this occasion.

Across MedStar Health, we embrace Black History Month as both a celebration and a reminder that Black history is American history, Black culture is American culture, and Black stories are essential to the ongoing story of our country, organization, and local communities.
