Adoptions Together and FamilyWorks Together are now Paths for Families! Paths for Families is an adoption and family well-being organization that builds and sustains families and advocates for best practices in the community. For 33 years, we’ve woven human-centered care, evidence-based practices, and trauma-informed expertise into the lives of more than 15,000 children and families across DC, Mar

yland, and Virginia. Understanding every path is unique, we support family growth and strengthening through education and counseling, infant adoption options, foster care adoption, family-finding, home studies and post-placements, professional and organizational training, and community outreach and support programming. WE DID IT! 👏

Because of this incredible community, we reached our goal of raising $15,000 to honor and support the social workers who show up for children and families every day. 🩷

Your generosity sends a powerful message: their work matters. We are so grateful.

Now, we’re setting our sights on one final goal: raising an additional $1,500 by April 30.

Every gift helps our social workers continue providing ethical, trauma‑informed support to children, parents, and caregivers navigating adoption and permanency journeys.

Meet DaShawna with today's Feature! 💜

DaShawna is a bright and energetic girl with a contagious smile. She's full of curiosity and loves to learn new things. When she's not busy playing dress-up (the more sparkles, the better!), DaShawna can be found on the playground, riding her bike, or lost in her imagination with her dolls and tablet. She's a creative soul who enjoys singing, dancing, and drawing.

DaShawna has experience living in homes with pets and would love to have a furry friend, especially a dog, in her forever home. Family adventures are also high on her wish list, and she wouldn't mind having older siblings to share experiences with. DaShawna has siblings of her own and staying connected to them is important to her.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month: a time to raise awareness about what children and families need to stay safe and strong. 🩷

This year’s theme, “Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention,” reflects the heart of our work at Paths for Families. Every day, we partner with parents, caregivers, and communities to provide the support, education, and advocacy families need to thrive.

When families are connected to resources and surrounded by care, prevention becomes possible and hope becomes action. Together, we can reduce stress, build resilience, and create brighter futures for children before harm ever occurs.

Families looking for resources and support can also explore the incredible work of Prevent Child Abuse America and Safe Shores - The D.C. Children's Advocacy Center, two organizations dedicated to protecting children and strengthening families.

Don’t miss our first session of our In*******al Adoption Support Group (INTAG) tomorrow at 6:30 PM on Zoom!

This free group is for adoptive parents and guardians in Maryland who want to connect, learn from one another, and talk honestly about identity, belonging, and the real experiences of in*******al adoption. Raising kids across racial and cultural lines can bring unique questions, and INTAG is a space where you don’t have to navigate them alone.

Meet Aaliyah with today's Feature! 💜

Aaliyah is a delightful teen who lights up the room with her friendly personality. She communicates warmly through gestures and pictures, and is even learning to use a communication device! Aaliyah thrives with adult support and enjoys being around her peers, though she might wait for them to initiate contact.

She loves exploring the world on walks, getting lost in her favorite shows, tackling puzzles, and splashing around in sprinklers! In the kitchen, she's a helpful hand who enjoys all kinds of food.

The perfect family for Aaliyah will be patient and understanding, taking the time to build a bond and unlock her full potential. Consistency is key for Aaliyah to blossom, and a family that can provide that structure will be a great match.

Our Story

Since 1990, Adoptions Together has helped more than 10,000 children join loving, permanent families. Every child who has come to us has become part of a permanent loving home. Each year, we help more than 150 infants and children join nurturing, stable homes. We provide prenatal support and counseling for pregnant women considering adoption services as well as interim care and placement for infants and children in need. Annually, we guide and support more than 300 pregnant women to help them make the best decision for their child. We also work with local social services departments to find permanent homes or connections for older children in foster care.

Adoptions Together is committed to building and strengthening secure, loving families. One of the agency’s guiding principles is inclusivity: factors such as race, religion, marital status, wealth or sexual preference, sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression don’t determine what kind of parent someone will be and they are never variables that we consider when finding a home for a child. Through openness, honesty and communication we work with every family to ensure that they receive the education, support and guidance they need through the entire placement process. We understand that no decision in this process is an easy one, and we stand by our commitment to children and their families to help all those involved make the best choice for the child.

Adoptions Together is far more than just an adoption agency. We are a lifelong resource for families where information, support and counseling can always be found. Adoptions Together supports children and families formed through adoption, guardianship, foster care, and kinship care with specialized services offered at locations in Maryland, Virginia and DC. Our support remains available to every family for a lifetime of guidance, education, and counseling to ensure that each family stays strong together. With a holistic network of more than three dozen innovative services that build and strengthen families, Adoptions Together is one of the most diverse nonprofit social service agencies serving the Washington/Baltimore area.We also serve as a regional center of knowledge and activity on child welfare issues for a broad spectrum of educational, mental health, and other professionals as well as legislators, public officials, and the general population.
