At SMR Counseling Services, we understand that life can be hectic, which is why we offer flexible appointment options — including late evenings, weekends, and virtual sessions — to better serve our clients. Our mission is twofold: to provide competent counseling and therapy to the communities in and around the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia and to serve as a clinical training site for future mental health professionals.

We work with a wide range of emotional and behavioral issues, providing services that span from therapy and coaching services for anxiety, depression, crisis, and grief counseling to parenting support, couples counseling, and beyond. In a comfortable and supportive atmosphere, we offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each of our client's individual needs to help attain the personal growth they are striving for.

We accept most major insurances, including Blue Cross/Blue Shield, CIGNA, AETNA, Tricare, United Health Care, Medicaid, and Medicare. If you work with one of our supervised future mental health professionals, we have a reduced rate of $30.00 a session.

On the second Sunday of May, we celebrate Mother's Day to honor and appreciate all that our mothers do for us and our families. However, for some, this day can be a reminder of grief and loss. While we often hear stories of positive and loving mother-daughter relationships, many people struggle with sadness, grief, and loss due to the lack of a healthy relationship with their mother.

We hope that this online gathering will provide a supportive environment for those who find Mother's Day to be a difficult holiday to celebrate. It is important that we acknowledge and address the complexities of mother-daughter relationships and provide a space for healing and growth.

On the second Sunday in May, we celebrate our mothers and all they mean to us and our families. For many, this is a day of grief.
