Today on the day of Guadalupe I think of my Yaya’s devotion to Guarare’s Señora de las Mercedes.
Primary mission: Liberation & mercy
Core themes
Freedom from captivity, oppression, and bo***ge
Compassion in times of suffering
Protection of the vulnerable
Symbols
White garments (purity, mercy)
Chains or shackles (release)
Crown (queenly authority through compassion)
Energetic role
She acts as a redeemer and liberator—the one who intervenes when people are trapped by circumstances, injustice, or inherited hardship.
In places like Guararé, she holds the role of protective matron of the land and people, closely tied to endurance, tradition, and communal survival.
Same Mary, different missions
There is one Virgin Mary, but she is venerated under different titles (advocations). Each title reflects:
a specific historical moment
a specific people
a specific need
Think of them as distinct faces of the same mother, each responding to a different wound in history.
