Congratulations to Josefina Laurean for receiving the St. John's Volunteer of the Year Award! When Sister Carmen Rodriguez, RSM, founded the Health Ministries Basic Needs Department in 1985, Josefina joined as a volunteer, all while raising six children and caring for her family. She dedicated 14 years as a volunteer and has served as a St. John's employee for the past 26 years.

For all of us who have worked with Josefina, we know her approach to serving God's people is best represented by a phrase we've often heard from her: "Hazte útil" (Make yourself useful).

Your dedication inspires us all!

Fun facts about them - Jony's inspiration to become a nurse stems from a family tragedy that encouraged her to help those in need; Alycia chose to pursue a career as a telemetry nurse because she thrives in fast-paced environments that challenge her critical-thinking skills; and Mallory enjoys spending time with her sons as a self-proclaimed "baseball mom!"

However, he managed to overcome each milestone along the way, thanks in large part to the incredible NICU team at St. John's. Last week, Jack was safely discharged to return home at a healthy 7 lbs., 14 oz. just in time to celebrate his 90th day in the world! Congratulations to Naomi and Max on bringing their little warrior back home!

The cardiovascular team at St. John’s Regional Medical Center - led by Dr. Ali Sovari, Medical Director of Electrophysiology - successfully placed an AVEIR leadless pacemaker using an innovative approach that has never been performed anywhere else in the world.

Using the AVEIR VR leadless pacemaker by Abbott - smaller than a AAA battery and designed to pace the right ventricle - Dr. Sovari and his team implanted the device through the subclavian vein, located just below the collarbone. This method is an alternative to the more common femoral vein access route in the groin area.

As a result of his pioneering technique, Dr. Sovari published a report titled “Leadless Pacemaker Placement Through the Subclavian Vein: An Alternative to the Femoral Route” in the Journal of Invasive Cardiology. Read more here: https://ow.ly/RxSG50X5Kug

Is it just aging, or something more? 🤔 When it comes to prostate health, the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test is just the beginning. But true early awareness and detection involve more than just a test —it’s about understanding your potential risk, recognizing subtle symptoms and having open talks with your health care provider.

Many think prostate cancer always causes urinary issues, but early stages often have NO symptoms at all. Don't wait for obvious signs. Learn more about what to look for here: https://ow.ly/b4l150WVKE6
