My oldest friend, Stacey, has served as my backbone in tackling a remodel on Bessie’s Cabin and The Grotto. She has a brilliant eye for interior design and vast skills for remodeling. In 2014, when she saw me weaken in my resolve, she said, “If you don’t buy it, I will.” She knew I needed a push. The rest is history.

What a lovely review from guests, Theresa and Coco.

People, This place is a GEM. First, it was a very last minute booking for me. Jayne was wonderful at truly opening up her property to me. This home in Cambria sits in a small hamlet of gentle, caring people--the host included! I was greeted with a thank you note and a bottle of wine. The thoughtful touches include an array of books, quilts and blankets, super comfy linen towels, artwork and objects, one of the best vintage ovens I've ever cooked with, a wonderful, cozy fireplace and two spacious bedrooms and bathrooms-one with a claw foot tub. This home is truly fully stocked: great crockery if you're a home cook, fabulous recommendations for local restaurants and the grounds are thoroughly enjoyable. The home itself has its own spacious outdoor areas including a huge backyard with loads of privacy and accent lights strung above the picnic table. Two plus fire pits, a Traeger outdoor cooker and it's a few blocks away from the most astounding Fiscalini nature reserve. I must say that Coco (my chow), and I lucked out when I chose Jayne's home. She's a soulful, thoughtful person who always has a positive, authentic demeanor. A 12 out of 10. I'd return in a heartbeat.

A message of gratitude for my lovely guest and new friend, Mark McCormack. His review after his stay at The Grotto:

Consider yourself lucky if you land at Jayne's place. The Grotto exceeded my expectations on every level. (About me: I'm a San Francisco resident with high standards for this kind of thing--and a super host myself so I notice everything.) First I was struck by the expansive outdoor space with a working fireplace. Then as I stepped inside I was blown away by the design with attention to every little detail. Jayne has an amazing eye. Further, the appliances were top notch, and I fell in love with the deep concrete sink, the double Wolf oven, and the butcher block counter. I cooked more than I expected while I was here, because it was fun to be in the kitchen. Good wi-fi? Check. I teach yoga online, and I stayed during the pandemic so the wi-fi had to be flawless. It was super fast and reliable. You'll note how rustic and charming it looks from the pictures, but it's very well built, well-insulated and warm, especially if you turn on the furnace or build a fire, which I did twice. What can I say about the bed, though: I've never slept better. I had some guests come while I was here, and they said even the fold out queen sized sofa bed was better than their bed at home. Super comfortable. The bathroom is also really well-designed. And the location: a few blocks away from scenic central coast cliffs and a beautiful beach is right up the road. Cambria is a charming village. But all of this is secondary to Jayne's amazing hospitality. There was no request I had that was too small (salad spinner? yes.). She accommodated my every need. Jayne is on the premises, but it's a completely private and separate space with its own entrance, and the property is divided in such a way that your outdoor space is yours. She accommodated parking for my bikes in the shed. There's even an outdoor shower.

Say hello to this cozy brand new Enviro freestanding fireplace with thermostat control. Note the wind! It was installed right before we got 12+ inches of rain in a matter of days. It’s a little slice of heaven here in the Grotto!

This handsome West Sacramento fire captain, Eric Jones, used his vast skills to hand-craft The Grotto's toilet paper holder. It's an incredible statement piece.
