Anulom Vilom : Alternate Nostril Breathing

A new thing we have started is to end every class with a Breathing Technique called Anulom Vilom. This follows the final pose, the "shavasana". On the surface, it’s simple. Inhale one side, exhale the other, switch, repeat. But it does something interesting. When you slow the breath down like that, your body doesn’t really have a choice—it starts to shift gears. Heart rate drops a bit. The “always on” feeling dials down.

This alternating pattern forces your attention to stay put. You can’t really multitask it. So the usual mental noise has less room to run. Done properly, it builds a kind of quiet tolerance to discomfort. So you get better at staying calm…when things are mildly uncomfortable. Over time this also builds resiliency in your lungs including resisting springtime allergies.

Great way to try something new. It will be relaxing to your body and mind. Bring anyone who you think will benefit.

Joint event with Blackwater Rising!!!

Most of you know Blackwater Rising, that is transforming our town with their Community Gardens! Come for a refreshing morning of yoga at Blackwater Rising Gardens at 808 Locust Street on May 9th at 9 am.

We will focus on breathing techniques that calm the nervous system. These are tools that you can later use anytime, anywhere. We will have the benefit of the fresh air which will really energize as we practice together. Ongira will guide you through breathing techniques, mobility and easy balance work—accessible for beginners, yet rewarding if you’ve done yoga before.

Enjoy the energy of community, the fresh morning air, and a practice that relaxes the mind while gently energizing the body.

This is a free event. Bring a mat.
