are often referred pain caused by a injury somewhere in the body that has a lot of interconnected sensory nerves that work with different tissues. A great example is the rotator cuff muscles. Having a strain or a pull here is painful and often hard for people to describe. It can be hard to pinpoint. Also, you can feel that pain to your wrist and even your fingers. Crazy right!? Take care of yourself and get your shoulder happy. I think I know someone who could do that for you. 😃

SAR-SAR….SARTORIUS! 😂 🎵🎶
Part of the hip complex, the muscle is the longest muscle in the human body. It originates at the anterior superior iliac spine (hip bone)and inserts at the proximal end of the tibia below the medial condyle (the front of the knee). For a idea of what this muscle does, think of when you stepped on gum and you lift your leg and look at the bottom of your foot. It flexes the hip, the knee, and medial rotates and abducts the leg. Wow. That’s a lot! I think this would be a great muscle to work on for a pelvis/hips sacrum session… what do you think?

is a well know and very common syndrome for many of us. Lately it seems I’ve had more and more clients come for help dealing with this annoyingly painful and often serious problem. One thought I like to bring into the picture is to feel your hand open. The idea of having better options for movement can also become your reality. How? By having someone like me (a professional 🤣) take care of that for you. DM to book a session for July.

What are they? Muscle knots are a hypersensitive bundle of fascia and muscle tissue that are contracted even at rest. Some are 🙄always🙄 noticeable and some only show up when pressed by yours truly. They can be the result of overuse, prolonged time of stagnation (muscles want to move!) and/or a injury. Having a skilled, knowledgeable LMT (ME😃) is a good way to treat them. Invest in your health. Be zen people!

This is a no filter pic of a scar I have. Some don’t know the benefits of massage therapy for scar tissue. Not only does massage make a scars appearance subtle, it can help with nerve damage and assist with blood flow to the area. It can help psychologically… having you become comfortable with the scar and your surroundings. Massage can also bring that touch of empathy and care to scars deep within. Let’s bring some good vibes and Zen into the new year!

A little about Derek. Owner of BodyZen Muscular Therapy.

I’m a licensed massage therapist practicing in Cambridge for over 5 years. My love and passion for massage and bodywork started when I was a teenager. I was trained at the Charles River School of Shiatsu (when I was 19) and later went to the Massage School in Boston. I’m currently working towards a CAMT 1 certification (COVID created a few detours) and am always doing my best to keep up to date with current research regarding anatomy, pain science and of course massage therapy.

I do a specialized blend of techniques that consist of Myofascial Release, Orthopedic Massage, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Trigger Point Therapy. I also now offer silicone cupping therapy. A treatment with me is designed specifically for what your goals are. Whether you’re training for a sport event, have chronic pain, or just want to relax. My experience has had me work with all types of people from professional and college level athletes to your next door neighbor.

I have a clean, well ventilated office here in East Cambridge where I see my clients at. Plenty of free parking and good vibes. Please wear a mask until it’s no longer mandated. ALL are welcome here at my place as I believe Zen should be had by all.
