With the red flag warnings, the extreme drought, winds, and smoke in the air, some bodies are remembering.

For the men who fought that last fire…

For the wives who waited, not knowing if their husbands were coming home…

For the families who evacuated…

For those who lost land, livestock, and neighbors…

If you’re feeling more on edge, restless, irritable, or having trouble sleeping — that makes sense.

When we’ve lived through chaos before, the nervous system stores it. Sirens, wind, smoke — they can bring it back fast.

This community showed incredible strength last time. We pulled together. We supported each other. That resilience is still here.

But strength doesn’t mean your body doesn’t react.

If it’s hard to settle back down, you don’t have to carry that alone.

We’re here. We can help make sense of what you are feeling and work to move that energy from your bodies.

Your symptoms aren’t flaws.
They’re messengers.
They’re trying to tell you what needs attention, comfort, or safety.

They are the body’s way of saying:
• “Something feels unsafe.”
• “I’ve reached my limit.”
• “I had to adapt to survive.”
• “I need support, not judgment.”

When we stop fighting symptoms and start listening to them, healing becomes possible.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” we can ask, “What is my system trying to protect me from?”

Meet our current Intern, Zoey! ✨

“Hello all! My name is Zoey Urling, I'm local to the Cambridge area and live with my spouse, two dogs, and cat.

I graduated from Fort Hays State University in 2023 with my Bachelors in Psychology and a minor in Leadership. I am now a Graduate Clinical Mental Health Counseling student and currently doing my Internship at Medicine Creek Counseling with Sarah. I will available to see clients February 16th until August 1st of 2026 three days a week.

I was drawn to the counseling field because I believe that helping people through all stages of life and what that might bring is a way to serve my community. There are a variety of possibilities with therapy and I plan to bring a unique approach based on the needs of my clients.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends along with listening to audiobooks and crafting. My spouse and I farm and ranch so we are normally busy when I am outside the office. I hope to provide support to the wonderful community of Cambridge and surrounding areas.”

Healing work isn’t always comfortable—but it shouldn’t feel re-traumatizing.

Here’s why therapy can feel hard sometimes—and why that’s actually part of the healing process. ✨

Our Therapists and their specialties 🌿✨

Our therapists each bring unique specialties to their work—because healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, life transitions, or simply trying to understand yourself more deeply, having a therapist trained in your specific area of need truly makes a difference.

Specialized training allows our team to go beyond general support. It helps us use targeted techniques, evidence-based approaches, and deeper insight into the patterns and experiences that shape your life. It means you’re not just heard—you’re understood.

Every person who walks through our doors brings their own story, their own strengths, and their own way of experiencing the world.

There is no “typical” client here — just real people with real needs, each deserving of care that fits who they are.

We don’t assume your needs based on your age or your diagnosis.
We listen.
We attune.
We shape therapy around you — your pace, your experiences, and your goals.

Because every person is different.
And your care should be, too.

✨ Who We Are: A Different Kind of Therapy Practice

Not all therapy is the same.
Our work is grounded in modern neuroscience, trauma research, and deep respect for the body’s natural ability to heal.

We believe therapy should be:
🧠 Brain-informed — understanding how trauma impacts memory, emotions, and the nervous system.
💛 Body-aware — because healing isn’t just cognitive; it’s physiological.
🌱 Holistic and collaborative — honoring each client as the expert of their own experience.
🧩 Integrative — combining EMDR, Brainspotting, Ego State work, CBT/DBT, and somatic approaches so clients get what actually works for them.
🫶 Compassionate and non-pathologizing — symptoms aren’t “problems,” they’re adaptations.

In our practice, therapy isn’t about forcing change or talking in circles.
It’s about helping your nervous system feel safe enough to shift, heal, and grow.

If you’ve tried therapy before and felt like something was missing—you’re not alone.
We’re here to offer a modern, trauma-informed approach that goes deeper than coping and creates space for real transformation.

You can understand your trauma and still feel stuck. That’s because trauma lives in the nervous system—not just the mind. 🧠

Even when we intellectually know what happened, the body can hold onto stress, tension, and fear. This is why talk therapy alone sometimes isn’t enough. Healing often requires addressing both the mind and the body.

Here are four reasons talking alone might not fully heal:

1️⃣ Trauma is stored in the body, not just the mind.
Your nervous system can stay on high alert even when your mind knows you’re safe. Symptoms like anxiety, tension, or panic are often stored physically.

2️⃣ Emotional responses can feel overwhelming
Some feelings are too intense to process with words alone. Without body-based approaches, it’s easy to get stuck in rumination or avoidance.

3️⃣ Old patterns are neurologically embedded
Trauma shapes automatic brain and body responses. Changing these patterns often requires techniques that retrain your nervous system, not just your thoughts.

4️⃣ Talking alone may focus on managing symptoms instead of healing.
Talking can help you understand and manage symptoms—but real healing often comes from addressing the root of trauma in both mind and body to help reduce the need for symptom management.

✨ Healing works best when we combine understanding with nervous system regulation, somatic work, and evidence-based trauma processing.

When a community experiences a loss, it is normal to feel uneasy, overwhelmed, or heartbroken, even if you did not know the person closely.

Community grief—or collective grief—is a shared experience that ripples through schools, neighborhoods, and towns. Grief can feel incredibly isolating, but community allows us to bear witness to each other's pain. Together, we can create a space for healing, sharing stories, and honoring memories. We don't have to carry this alone.

As we hold this loss together, we also hold deep respect for the family and loved ones who are hurting most. May we move gently, speak softly, and create space for their grief—simply standing alongside them in compassion.
