My Recovery Story: Liam's Journey

"Hi, I’m Liam.

My story started with foster care and abuse before age 3. By 13 I was smoking w**d daily to numb pain, then moved on to pain pills and eventually opiates. I chased anything that would make me feel “normal”—or nothing at all.

Recovery wasn’t easy. Facing the hurt and breaking cycles of trauma was harder than using ever was. But step by step, I learned new coping skills, found people who understood, and started to heal.

Now, as a BHT at Avenues, I’ve grown stronger in my own recovery while helping others do the same. Watching alumni return sober and thriving reminds me why I do this. Recovery gave me back my life—and a family I never thought I’d find." 💜

Avenues South Bend closed out summer in true luau style! 🌺

Clients and staff enjoyed a day filled with Kona Ice, cotton candy, a dunk tank, and gourmet hotdogs from the The Wiener Shack. 🌭🍧

It was the perfect way to celebrate the season, relax, and have some fun together as a community. 😎

Flashing it back this Friday when our Fort Wayne team flipped the tradition on its head with a fun White Out Party! Staff showed up dressed in white and were treated to a visit from Travelin' Tom's Coffee of Fort Wayne Truck. ☕🤍

Avenues at Fort Wayne recently celebrated 5 years of serving our community — and we did it in classic Fort Wayne style! 🎉

The day featured an inspiring art show (with our first piece painted live by an alumnus), mouthwatering tacos from Grade A Tacos, a few lively rounds of Jeopardy, and music from another talented alumni DJ.

Our Executive Director, Jon Elia, capped off the night with a rousing speech celebrating everything we’ve accomplished over the past five years — and all the incredible things still to come as we continue to serve our community one client, one day at a time. And yes, plenty of snacks too! 💜👏
