It’s go time! Marathon training has officially started over here at Flowstate Physiotherapy 🏃🏼‍♀️ Nick and I are running the Wilmington marathon in February, so lots of dark miles are in my future 😆

Things I am doing to make sure that I stay healthy and have a strong build:
✨Strength training 2x/week
✨Taking at least 1 full rest day each week
✨Staying consistent with my overall plan so that I can build mileage and intensity without any big spikes (and knowing that if something comes up I’ll need to adjust my plan accordingly)
✨Fueling for performance and recovery (aka eating often and a lot)

Who else is starting a new training block soon?!

Many runners get frustrated when injuries seem to come out of nowhere, but most of the time there’s a clear cause.

One of the leading culprits? Doing too much, too soon - especially when training for a new distance. Hindsight might be 20/20, but my goal is to help you stay ahead.

While most marathon and half marathon plans last 16–20 weeks, what often gets overlooked is the phase before training begins. This is when you build the strength, mileage base, and recovery habits that set you up to handle the demands of training.

That’s what my next workshop is all about:
✨Base-building strategies
✨Strength & mobility that support running
✨Recovery tools to keep you ready for the next run
✨Tips to catch little aches before they grow into real injuries

If you’ve got a spring race on the calendar, now is the time to start. Join me Sunday, October 26 for the Strong Base, Strong Race workshop so you’re ready when your training begins!

If you ever feel like your injury might “never heal”, you’re not alone.

We hear that a lot… but with the right support and plan built around your goals, you can come back stronger than ever.

At Flowstate Physiotherapy, it’s our mission to guide you there.

Let’s face it… being injured sucks. And if it happens in the middle of training for a big race, it can feel especially discouraging. But sometimes the best (and hardest) decision is to step back, let your body heal, and prevent long-term damage.

This is the framework we use to help runners recover, rebuild, and safely return to training when an injury gets in the way:

1️⃣ Unload: we shift focus to other aspects of performance like nutrition, sleep, and mindset. It can also be a great opportunity for you to reconnect with hobbies that you haven’t had as much time for.

2️⃣ Back to basics: we work on rebuilding from the ground up with strength and walking first, progressing to plyometrics

3️⃣ Gradual return to run: we lay out a specific and gradual return to run program to help you safely start running again

4️⃣ Return to training: now you can get back at it with confidence, taking what you’ve learned during recovery to be stronger than ever for your next race

Remember: sitting out now doesn’t erase your hard work - it protects the miles and years of running healthy still ahead.

At Flowstate Physiotherapy, we’ll help guide you through the process so you can recover fully and get back to running stronger than ever. Send us a DM or use the link in bio to learn more.

🗣️A quick shoutout: Our approach has been shaped over the years by some of the best minds in the running rehab space. Thank you , , and for paving the way and sharing your knowledge 🙌

Fall marathon season is officially here! 🏃🏼‍♀️🍂🏃🏻‍♂️Good luck to everyone racing Berlin tomorrow!!

That means the countdown is on...
✨ 3 weeks to Chicago
✨ 4 weeks to Baystate (I’ll be running the half - let me know if you’ll be there!)
✨ 6 weeks to NYC
✨ 9 weeks to Philly

Now is the time to listen to your body to make sure that your efforts in training payoff on race day.

Feeling sore and tired can be normal during peak weeks, but you want to arrive at the start line feeling strong.

Flowstate is here to support you through your final long runs with recovery sessions and pre-race tune ups to help your legs feel fresh and ready to go.

➡️ Spots fill fast in the fall, so make sure to grab yours now if you want a tune up before race day!

Success stories like this are always so sweet to hear! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

🏃‍♀️ We all know that long runs are key for half marathon and marathon training. But the truth is that your progress doesn’t just come from logging those miles… It also comes from how well you recover afterward.

Recovery is what allows your muscles, tendons, and energy systems to adapt and get stronger. Without it, you’re just piling stress on top of stress, which eventually leads to breakdown...

4 key things to prioritize after your long runs:
✅ Nutrition: refuel with protein + carbs within 30–60 minutes
✅ Sleep: where real rebuilding happens - aim for at least 8 hours
✅ Hydration: replace fluids + electrolytes lost on the run (especially during hot summer days)
✅ Active recovery: light movement or mobility to reduce stiffness

So next time you are looking to level up your training, instead of asking “What more can I do?”, try asking “How well am I recovering?”

At Flowstate Physiotherapy, our goal is to help you recover well so you can stay injury-free. Sometimes that means strength and mobility work, and other times it means hands-on manual therapy to give your body the reset it needs.
