🌱 May Recap: Growing Connections, Building Communities, Supporting Agriculture 🌱

May was a busy and exciting month across Noble, Guernsey, and Morgan Counties as we recognized Mental Health Awareness Month while continuing to support our local agricultural communities.

Throughout the month, we hosted multiple Brewing Connections and Back 40 Connections events, creating opportunities for farmers, families, and community members to connect, learn, and discuss rural mental health, farmer wellness, and available resources.

One of the highlights of the month was having the opportunity to travel to the Ohio Statehouse and present before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, sharing about the importance of agricultural mental health and the work being done to support our rural communities.

We also celebrated several exciting community projects:
🌻 The Noble County Community Garden was officially launched.
🌻 The Guernsey County Educational Raised Beds were installed and already being used to educate community members during the Farmer Breakfast on container and raised-bed gardening.
🌻 Planning continues for the full Guernsey County Community Garden, with a target launch in 2027.

May also included participation Ag School Days, where we had the opportunity to engage with students from Noble and Guernsey Counties and help connect youth with agriculture through hands-on learning experiences.

None of this work would be possible without the partnerships, volunteers, organizations, and community members who continue to support these efforts. Thank you to everyone who attended an event, shared resources, volunteered their time, or helped start a conversation.

Together, we are strengthening agriculture by strengthening the people and communities behind it. 💚

As we say goodbye to April and hello to May, we welcome Mental Health Awareness Month as a time to recognize the unique mental health challenges facing rural communities. In rural America, where long, tiring days meet economic uncertainty, mental health can be deeply impacted and difficult to address. Read the full article at ofb.ag/3RkTtDe.

💚 May is Mental Health Awareness Month💚
In our rural communities, strength is often measured by how much we can carry on our own. The truth is, no one should have to carry their struggles alone.

Farmers and those living in rural areas face unique stressors including financial pressure, isolation, unpredictable weather, and daily demands of agriculture. Because of this, rural populations, especially those in agriculture, are at a significantly higher risk for mental health struggles. In fact, su***de rates among farmers and agricultural workers are estimated to be 3.5 times higher than the general population.

As the Agricultural Navigator serving our communities, my goal is not only to support agriculture, but also the people behind it. Mental health matters just as much as physical health, and asking for help is a sign of strength not weakness.

This month let's work together to break the stigma, check in on one another, and reminding our rural communities that support is available and conversations matter!
