Ready for a heartstring tug?

Tiaerrah Mumford wanted to donate a kidney to her brother-in-law, Reginald Laroche, but she wasn’t a match. Ashleigh Haliabalias, a South Carolina nurse, had no specific recipient in mind. She simply wanted to help someone in need.

Their decisions led to something extraordinary.

Through MUSC Health’s living donor kidney exchange program, Tiaerrah turned out to be a match for Dontrell Sutton, a young man who had been on dialysis for five years and the kidney transplant waitlist for three.

Ashleigh was a match for Reginald, a Johns Island native and teacher at W.J. Keenan High School in Columbia who had been waiting for his miracle match for a year.

Four surgeries in one day. Two lives saved. Countless lives impacted. This is the difference living donation can make.

Ready to be someone's miracle? Become a living donor!

Say hello to Brie Cheese, the first-ever Rottweiler to join the PAWS Pack at MUSC Health! This gentle two-year-old made her debut at Ashley River Tower, where she was met with big smiles and even bigger tail wags.

Her human, Kailey, is a MUSC Health team member who knows firsthand just how powerful canine therapy can be. We’re so excited to welcome this dynamic duo to the pack!

Last weekend, 76-year-old Earline Washington stepped up to the pitcher’s mound and threw the first pitch at Sunday’s Charleston RiverDogs game.

Living with sickle cell disease hasn’t stopped her from breaking barriers. She was the first African American woman commissioned as a Deputy Sheriff in Orangeburg County and helped found the Orangeburg Area Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation.

We loved having her out for MUSC Health Family Sunday. What a special moment!

“My mind doesn't seem to be racing as bad as it was,” said Lori Wingard, reflecting on a powerful shift in her mental health journey.

Thanks to a new MUSC Health mobile clinic, patients like Lori across South Carolina are finding relief from treatment-resistant depression—without leaving their communities. The clinic brings transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a noninvasive brain therapy, directly to underserved areas, offering new hope to those who haven’t responded to medication alone.

For Lori, that meant staying employed while completing her full course of care—proof that healing doesn’t have to come at the cost of everyday life.

A breakthrough at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center! Researchers identified a hidden signaling loop that helps leukemia survive and developed a new immunotherapy to block it.

Led by Dr. Sophie Paczesny, the team created a lab-made antibody that not only targets aggressive leukemia cells but also reactivates the body’s immune response.

Early results show it could lead to fewer relapses, fewer side effects and more hope for patients with AML and other hard-to-treat cancers.

If Cory Harrison looks familiar, you might remember his powerful recent takeover on MUSC Health's Instagram account.

The YMCA camp leader opened up about living with trigeminal neuralgia and his experience at MUSC Health, helping thousands of others feel less alone.

We recently caught up with Cory and the neurosurgeon who performed his surgery to talk about how one patient's story can ripple far beyond the operating room.
