Beginning in 1973, when abortion was accepted as a legal alternative to pregnancy, healthcare professionals have been confronted by an ever-increasing number of morally challenging life issues. The list of ethical dilemmas continues to grow: in vitro fertilization, cloning, fetal experimentation, organ donation and transplantation, nutrition and hydration, patient rights, certain sterilization practices, looming rationing of medical resources, assisted suicide and euthanasia, and stem cell research with its promise of advances in the treatment of disease.

"Yesterday, I received a frantic phone call from my daughter, who said her car had hit the rear end of the vehicle in front of her when it stopped suddenly, leaving a dent in the car she hit. She was hysterical and said that two men exited the vehicle and told her not to call the police or take pictures. I asked where she was and that I would come, but one man took her phone away and told me not to call the police because they had illegal drugs in the car. They told me they would kill her if the police came."...

A group of abortion advocates have designated an "International Safe Abortion Day."

"They ignore the cries of hundreds of healthy women and millions of innocent children who were unnecessarily slaughtered," said FFL President Serrin Foster.

"We dream of a day when womanhood is celebrated, mothers are supported, fathers are honored, and every child is cherished. We joyfully celebrate birthdays, not violence, despair, hopelessness, and cruelty."

I was shocked when one doctor asked if we wanted her fed, and I responded angrily, "She gets up and eats ice cream out of the refrigerator! Do you want me to tackle her?!" Of course, I knew what he meant, but he got the message."...
