When Act 209 was signed into law in December 1984, it laid the groundwork for something the Commonwealth had never had before: a structured, accredited trauma system. Act 45 followed in 1985, and from there, the network grew steadily โ€” one accredited program at a time.

Today, 60 trauma programs across Pennsylvania stand ready to deliver life-saving care to patients when every second counts.
And we're not done building.

The next chapter of Pennsylvania trauma care: leveraging TraumaHQ and a forward-looking strategic plan to strengthen the system, improve outcomes, and build on 40 years of excellence.

Proud of how far we've come. Even more excited about where we're headed.

30 days. One Chance. Protect the Trauma Workforce.

The Department of Education does not believe advanced medical degrees are worth the investment. Education is not a luxury item - it is essential to deliver high quality trauma care and ensure optimal outcomes for all injured patients. Act now. The proposed rule is now posted on the Federal Register for public comment, and only available for 30 days (ends March 2). We have one chance. Your Voice Matters. Join PTSF in advocating for accessible education and protecting the future multidisciplinary workforce critical to delivering trauma care. Click the link below to comment.

๐ŸŽ„ Safety Is the Greatest Gift This Holiday Season ๐ŸŽ„

The holidays bring joy and togetherness, but they also come with risks we can prevent. Every Pennsylvanian deserves a safe and healthy season.

As we gather with loved ones, letโ€™s keep safety at the heart of our traditions. Plan ahead for safe travel, avoid distractions on the road, and check your home for hazards before hosting gatherings. Every choice we make - on the road, at home, and in our communities - can prevent injuries and save lives.

We are especially thankful for the dedicated professionals across Pennsylvania who work tirelessly in trauma care - your commitment saves lives every day.

From all of us at the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation, thank you for supporting trauma prevention and care across the Commonwealth. Together, letโ€™s make safety the gift that lasts all year. Wishing you peace, health, and happiness this holiday season.

Thanksgiving Is About Gratitudeโ€”and Safety

As we gather with family and friends this holiday season, letโ€™s not forget that safety matters everywhereโ€”not just on the road, but in our homes and communities.

Trauma doesnโ€™t take holidays off. Every year, preventable injuries send thousands to trauma centers during Thanksgiving. The good news? Many of these incidents can be avoided with a little planning:

โœ… Drive smartโ€”avoid distractions and never drive impaired.

โœ… Kitchen safetyโ€”keep an eye on hot surfaces and sharp tools.

โœ… Fall preventionโ€”clear walkways and watch for trip hazards.

At PTSF, weโ€™re thankful for the dedicated teams in accredited trauma centers who stand ready 24/7. But the best outcome is preventing trauma before it happens.

Wishing you a safe, healthy, and happy Thanksgiving! ๐Ÿฆƒ

๐ŸŒŸ PA Trauma Proud at TQIP 2025! ๐ŸŒŸ

What an incredible few days at the TQIP Conference in Chicago!

Our brand-new โ€œPA Trauma Proudโ€ ribbons were on full display โ€” and they were a hit! It was amazing to see so many colleagues from across Pennsylvania showing their pride and solidarity. The turnout from our state was phenomenal.

PTSF is grateful for the opportunity to learn, collaborate, and represent PA trauma centers with such a passionate group.
